I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I've been questioning the importance of this game.
I know I'll have a slew of M$ fan boys jumping in front of this carbine shot, but whats so
big about this game?
I understand the Halo following, trust me, I was one of those who purchased Halo 2 and played it all the way until my 360 blew up... Really it started smoking and died, thank you Microsoft. :D
That being said, I've played my share of Halo, BUT I don't really see what the big leap is in Halo 3. My problem with the newest installment is the fact that, I'm not seeing anything incredibly new. I know graphics got a fast spit shine, the storyline continues/concludes(which I could care less for), and they've added the whole record and watch your games (which outside of MLGers, I don't see being used all that much). I know Halo has always been Microsoft's child of sorts and its going to get as much publicity as they can muster, but is it worth it?
I personally believe this may be a mediocre game that will only sell to the hardcore fan boys of Microsoft and the Halo franchise along with those who will buy into the hype.
But thats all besides the point, what do you think?
I do believe that mediocre is far too negative a word. For it to be mediocre, you would have to go into the game with that expectation in mind and not allow yourself to think any other way. The game should be good by anyone's standards, whether they be a die hard Game Fuel afficionado, or someone who hates on Halo and Microsoft for sport. The game has a soul that few games can lay claim to.
However, Microsoft has generated so much uneccessary hype for a game guaranteed to sell to the gargantuan Game Fuel crowd, that no game, regardless of the winsauce it contains, can live up to. That does not mean that Halo 3 will be a "mediocre" game, it just means it won't be the second coming of Christ.
@ Action Bastard:
There is a substantial crowd (of whom I know many members of) who still are playing good ol' Halo 2 on their original Xboxes, and there are people meandering along the line of to buy or not to buy (a 360) because they are unconfident in the library currently available (of whom I know many as well). This will be the tipping point for those people who have yet to dabble in the 360.
I guess I did get a little overzealous by using the term mediocre, lol but my point was that it seems like its getting more attention than it deserves.
Of course it's getting too much attention. Microsoft has dropped the ten billionmofillion bucks to make sure you can't turn your head without being blindsighted by some component of the Halo 3 marketing humvee.
In the end, those who deprive themselves of Halo 3 will be depriving themselves of fun that no amount of Halo hating can bring them.
I'm not denying the Halo franchise at all, as I said I was a hardcore Halo 2 player, aswell as a Halo CE player. But what I am questioning is the next installment. Don't get me wrong I do understand that Halo was a defining game, Halo 2 was a good leap from that, but I'm not seeing Halo 3 as making the same bound that either one of its predecessors has made.
I do think that the game will sell to those who do buy into all the hype. As far as it selling systems, its questionable. Some may be swayed, but I think that the ones who will truly be buying the console because of the game are those select few who are still playing H2 on their original boxes.
As the guy said earlier, mediocre is too strong of a word. Although Halo may be "overrated, in conceived, and over hyped" by Microsoft, this is Bungie we're talking about. Not some low level game company. I speak not only as a fan of Halo, but as a gamer that knows a good fps. All I will add to this is there is a possible chance people will get a 360 just for Halo 3, but over dominantly more won't buy into that. And it's fine. Just putting in my two cents.
