I stumbled upon Quantcast and thought I'd share some numbers with y'all.
According to the
Quantcast audience profiler, Destructoid's audience is white males aged 18-34 with less than $30k salaries and no college education. This doesn't just represent America - half of Dtoid's near-million viewers a month comes from other countries.
Quantcast's
site rankings describes Destructoid as "
509K+ U.S. monthly people. The site attracts a teen, very slightly male biased audience.", giving it a rank of 3276. It ranks just below Wizard101, BustedTees and MyWebFace.
Widening the scope to see audience trends over the years, it is apparent that while viewership spiked early on, there has been a slow but consistent rise in Dtoid's 'people per day'.
Finally, let's compare the numbers to a rival gamer site, Kotaku.
What questions can we raise in response to these numbers? What kinds of changes could Dtoid undergo to ramp up their 'people per day', or do they need to change anything? Has the "also, cocks" formula worked for the best, or could there be something more to the site?
Since you've been visiting Destructoid, what trends have you seen? Are you surprised by these statistics, or does it sound pretty dead-on?
PS3 IS 4 GAYZ LOL
:P
Anyways, I like how Dtoid is right now. Or I should say, I don't want the site to constantly be making drastic changes. I prefer the small incremental improvements over time, unless a change is immediately required. I'm a creature of routine. A step at a time for me, not sure I could take such an influx of the avatarless *shudders*.But I would still stay here no matter what happens.
Although ever since dtoid usvervoice feedback thing was put up I anxiously await all the cool updates they plan which make me wish it changed faster in some aspects.
-Image Viewer definitely needs to be updated.
-New comment system needs to be here like yesterday.
It can gather personal data such as the names you enter in data fields, or the demographics of who the PC has registered.
That, and Quantcast lies/is inaccurate.
@Jesus
I'll continue.
Here's a press release. I won't tell you how I feel about it
::throws up copy pasta::
Regarding Destructoid, the only thing I will say is that I do think that the site is strongly skewed towards a male demographic in terms of the plethora of "hot chick" graphics on the front page (often having nothing at all to do with the story) and even the use of "fapping" instead of voting. A quick look at the forums often shows threads regarding "hottest females", "hot asian chicks" "bad sex" and other topics that initially can seem a bit sexist and not really game related...but definitely "guy" related. Once females join the site and start actually participating, there isn't much in the way of sexism, harassment, or anything of that nature - but initially the site does give a bit of an impression of being a "boys club". I don't know that this would actually be "fixable" ... and in many ways it shouldn't be "fixed". The community is what it is - and what it is, is pretty great.
1. Stop showing the editors' faces and mentioning their personal lives. This is a sign of SERIOUS JOURNALISM. Don't have the editors show up in videos unless they're doing SERIOUS INTERVIEWS.
2. Actually, for that matter, stop posting videos unless they're official trailers provided by publishers. Anything else will distract from SERIOUS NEWS.
3. Get rid of Cblogs and Forums. These are not the SERIOUS PEOPLE that belong on a proper news site.
Follow these steps, and Dtoid can start racking up the readers. That will increase ad revenue and prestige. Then the site can be bought out by a media conglomerate so that Niero can have a nice retirement fund. After all, that's the goal of all websites...right?
Yep! I want to know what Dale North had for lunch, or if he heard the word "dale" all day in conversation: it makes for VERY interesting news posts.
