WOW 14 Day Trial (PC): Day 8
DJMegaMatX | 12:58 PM on 12.30.2007 8 comments

Having taken the long trek from Duskwood up to Goldshire, I ventured beyond the Eastvale Logging Camp and into the Redridge Mountains. Here, I met a similar fate as in Duskwood-- death by spiders.

Despite WOW's promises of a big open environment to explore, I find the gameplay to be very structured. Different areas are tailored for different levels, which works on a few levels-- when your character can finally survive against common enemies in a new area, you feel a nice sense of accomplishment, but it makes the game feel very limited to a newer player like myself (Level 10 Priest).

A good friend of mine advised me to take a train from the Dwarven section of Stormwind up to Ironforge, where there are more quests for my Level. I'll give this a shot tomorrow, but it would be nice if the game would give you a shove in the "right" direction now and again-- I might be too spoiled since I was raised on JRPGs.

Just run around until you're not slaughtered instantly by everything you see.

I'd say at level 10 you should be headed to Westfall, I believe that at the end of all the questing in Elwynn you receive a quest to talk to a guy in Westfall, that would be your push in the right direction.

wow may seem epic and expansive, but honestly you are confined to certain areas at all times.

it not such a big world when your only options are to grind in one of two places.

My thoughts exactly, bottled dark.

I have been to Westfall briefly and the setting looks so damn dull, cool clockwork mechanized scarecrows aside.

Ahh you're at those areas of alliance territory now, hehe last time I was there I was the only horde openly running about, with most alliance players scarpering for the hills to avoid me, I was only there for a poke about aswell (Can't kill anyone in the opposing sides territory, unless they're stupid enough to attack you first, so dunno why they ran) :(

All my characters that have gone past level 5 have been Horde, still its always funny to go to the alliance start zones and watch them double take as a level 70 blood elf rogue rides past them, whose hugging them.

Anyways good luck should be able to access your first instance soon, hopefully its a good experience for you.

yea, westfall gets really annoying pretty fast. but consider the alternative:

day and night discussions of chuck norris in the barrens.

i think you have the lesser of the two evils.

Jump into the lava in Ironforge. Don't worry, everyone does it at least once so nobody will think you're crazy.
