Gamefly Gadfly #4: The Cancellation
DJMegaMatX | 8:59 PM on 04.25.2008 9 comments

The concept of Gamefly has so much promise-- it's the Netflix of videogames. With videogame rental prices at around $6 a pop, one thinks such a service would be useful. Too bad that Gamefly has failed to meet my expectations for one reason: they are way too slow.

Part of it might be a lack of distribution centers, but I am attributing it more to inventory. My Queue had over ten titles, consisting of mostly older games that had high availablity. It took over a week and a half to receive one of those titles, which is unacceptable. I cancelled my account with them with less than a month of service, which is rather lousy.

I am off to see Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantamano Bay, but just wanted to vent here briefly. Anyone else frustrated or delighted with Gamefly's service?

I completely understand your frustration. I noticed after the first month they seemed to get games to me a bit faster. It usually takes them about 3 days to send me a game and it takes 4 days for a game to get back to them for me, normally.

The main reason I am using Gamefly right now is to save monies.

I am frustrated by proxy since you and I have talked about this whole experience. I am also jealous that I'm not with you on the way to see Harold and Kumar.

I stopped for a time since it used to take forever until they opened the Tampa branch. It still depends though. I can still send games back lightning-quick, but a game can ship from any of the other branches and preorders are always shipped from the farthest center from where I live.

I live pretty close to the Pittsburgh shipping center, so speed isn't really an issue for me. I've gotten games from the LA shipping center within four days (Obscure: The Aftermath). I'm extremely happy with Gamefly, and I recommend it to pretty much everyone I know.

I get my games nearly next day and I have 50 in Q >.>

I also live in PA though, so I'm pretty close to a shipping center.

king3vbo: I am going to be in Georgia when Postal comes out, but I do want to try and see it the following weekend, for sure.

Harold & Kumar 2 was very funny, at least as good (and random) as the original.
