Long time no blog--working full time and going to night school kind of does that to you sometimes. Regardless, like a dork, I woke up at 1:30 AM this morning to purchase a remake of a game that holds a very special place in my heart: Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Much like the original, it is a damn hard game. Fans of the NES classic should run out and download this now, but those who aren't used to insanely hard side-scrollers of yore should stand clear.
Unlike the recent Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP, the 3D rendered character in a 2D environment works well due to bright, high-contrast colors. The techno remixed music and amusing translation help round out the experience. One additional mode features Challenge Rooms, which work as a hard version of Metal Gear Solid-style VR Missions. I have yet to try the local only Multiplayer.
Let me stress this again--Bionic Commando: Rearmed is hard. I died 4 times trying to beat the first level on Normal Difficulty. Bosses now have a puzzle mechanic that must be solved in order to dismantle them to cause any real damage, which is an improvement. So far, this game has lived up to my expectations. Does it live up to yours?
The original Bionic Commando was not very forgiving and some levels were gigantic labyrinths of endless corridors. The bosses weren't very tough in the original though.
My prediction about four Bionic Commando blogs came true and its not even ten o'clock.
I downloaded it for PSN and I am very impressed, I am definitely going to buy it.
As a enormous fan of the original it was awesome to replay even the first level, because every level has been designed around the original levels from the NES. In fact everything from the NES, and more, is present; it truly is a BC fans wet dream.
It is definitely 10 shades of awsome. And yes it isn't an easy game...Learning how to use and time the arm is tough...The only thing I can say with a little negativity is that the initial area (00) has some v synch tearing a little, but I haven't seen it happen in the other 5 areas I have been in so far. 10 bucks is a steal.
I still consider beating the original BC one of my outstanding achievements in gaming. I must have 12 at the time. I'm so looking forward to getting this. i just need to beat Folklore Blue Dragon and FFIV first
The original is one of the first games I can remember beating. Every so often, I'll pop it into the ol' NES and give it a go. Awesome game. Only had the chance to play a few minutes of Rearmed this morning before heading to work. Can't wait to play it tonight.

At least people quit talking about that goddamn Braid game. I was going die from a brain embolism if I heard one more thing about it.

I was up this morning at 2a.m. drinking in the retro goodness of Bionic Commando. Totally worth the points
