I'm starting up a new blog series, partly to review old(er) games but also to keep me writing. It will be called
Battle of Backlog, or BoB for short. As you can see in my sidebar, I have a few games I'm currently playing (or still playing despite beating), and if you
click the link, you'll see I have quite a few more games to work through. And really, I need to get writing because I planned on doing this when I broke 200 unfinished games, and I've piled on a few more since then.
And what better excuse to write about old games no one cares about anymore? :D
So here's the format of the blogs:
First, I'll have the boxart if there is one, and below it I will have a relevant parody/take of
Bad Dudes' intro, just for fun. I'll start with a paragraph or two about the game, and then start into the points about things I liked and things I did not like. This is something that Gamespot has apparently done with their The Good/The Bad blurbs in the reviews, but instead of having a full-text review and only have mention of good/bad, I will go into some detail about specific things I did/did not like. In a perfect world, I would have a paragraph for each point, and even have an equal number of meaningful points for each side so as to maintain some sense of balance. This probably isn't how it'll go all the time, but I can certainly try to at least uphold this.
After the above, I'll put in some closing statements, a bogus review score (since I rather hate how people put so much stock into just a number as opposed to the text), and maybe a tip for anyone who is looking to try the game in question. Naturally, I'll keep spoilers out of my reviews as possible, though I will take measures when necessary if I have to absolutely mention something. If I have praise/complaints about story bits, you'll know by the incredibly small text, since Dtoid (as far as I know) has no black background+black text option. In between parts, I will attempt to at least put one relevant picture so as to break up the wall-o-textness.
I'm not going to say anything about a schedule. I'll not keep it, I know this, but at the very least, I can attempt for once a month. That's absolutely too infrequently for what I'd like to do, but I'm not the fastest game-completer, not to mention I will eventually hit a wall and dry up on material to use. Yes, even with the number of games on the backlog already, and the number I haven't even added yet. I'm afraid of that second part.
Anyway, do wish me luck. I hope to turn out some not-crap in the near future. I think I know what I'm gonna do for my first BoB...
Good luck, looking forward to it and blah blah blah.
