There are three main reasons why a game developer would put its main character in a fancy suit:
1. It adds all kinds of gameplay options that make the game more enjoyable and interesting.
2. A suited character makes for a great mascot that is instantly recognizable.
3. It’s really cool.
But which suit is the best? Is it the
MJOLNIR (how the hell do you pronounce this?) armor on Master Chief, the HEV suit made famous by one Dr. Gordon Freeman, the quite cool looking Nano Muscle Suit in
Crysis or the time bending one from
Timeshift?
Well let’s find out shall we…
The most uninspired suit has to be the
HEV in Half-life (2). It protects you from radiation, it talks to you and that’s about it really. OH!!! It has a flashlight! How innovative is that! So it’s not innovative. The only reasons its effective is the determination (and crowbar) of the wearer.
One thing though-
DOES IT HAVE A HELMET!!!!! How would Gordon survive radiation without a helmet?
The MJOLNIR armor is the one the made an impact on the gaming industry. The recharging shields have been copied more than the shape of
Pamela Anderson’s breasts! Personally Master Chief reminds me of a tank! Yeah a TANK! A big, powerful, rough, unstoppable tank! It’s not sleek as the other suits! It was clearly made to save the universe from those ring things. It’s cool! Though not as cool as the next contender.
The Nano muscle suit. It’s packed with features. You have your basic recharging shield and night vision. Then there are the really cool stuff. Like maximum armor which is… just armor…ok that isn’t that cool. But maximum strength is. You can jump higher and are able to pick stuff up (Koreans, barrels, chickens, turtles, bottles, chairs, frying pans and god knows what else) and throw them tens of feet into the air. You can also switch to maximum speed and run past everything. Or just turn invisible and sneak past. This is a really good suit.
What about Timeshift then. Well you can slow down time. Not that original. You can however Stop and Reverse time as well. You can stop time and take the enemy’s gun and watch him pray for his life! OR you can kill him reverse time and kill him again! Its an
endless source of amusement!
Which is the best then?
The Timeshift suit obviously! The possibilities are endless! Imagine if Gordon Freeman wore one in the test chamber in the original Half-Life!
Resonance cascade? Nope! Just reverse time and save the world. It would be faster, although, granted, it won’t make a cool game. But what if it has to go face to face with the other suits. Simple, just stop time and fill them with lead!!! Die Freeman, die Master Chief, die Nomad!
Don't agree with me? GOOD!

Also, no helmet but if they can figure out how to rip a hole in dimensions or what not, I think they could figure something out about the no-helmet situation.
And its presence in the history and gameplay makes perfect sense. Never to out of the ordinary and yet it explains a lot. Also it has the jumping add on in the original half life.
The crysis suit is like science fiction and does a great job in working on the interactivity with the enviroment in the game. It is the bases of the gameplay of crysis.
And its pronounced "Em Joel nuhr"
