So, wow. I haven't been 'round this place forever. Last I checked in, I had just bought a 360. The thing came down with a nasty case of RRoD a few months after I bought it, and so I was out of the game for a bit. Early this year I replaced that son of a bitch with a new unit, and so far it has performed admirably. So far. I know it's death is as inevitable as my own, so I know that it's just a matter of time before I'm boxing this bad boy up and sending it to Microsoft, but I'm cool with that. So far it's working great and I couldn't be happier.
Well apparently I could be. As much as I love my 360, and I do, I wasn't content with owning just that and a Wii. I had to complete my collection of current-gen systems. Why? I have no clue. Maybe it's just the freedom of choice that owning all three systems allows that motivated me, or maybe it's that I'm still a geeky gamer at heart and had to have 'em all because I'm finally in a place financially to afford it. Whatever motivated me to do it, I am now the proud owner of a shiny new 40GB PS3.
So here I am once again, asking you folks for opinions on what I should check out for the thing. I've got Street Fighter IV and Soul Calibur IV for my fighting game needs, and I have Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction because I'm an unapologetic fan of the series. Beyond that, my shelf is looking a little bare. So help me out folks. What would you suggest that I look into? I'm pretty open to games of all genres as long as your suggestions are good examples of their respective genres. For example, I'm not a huge FPS fan, but if you suggest to me a must-play FPS, I'm more than willing to give it a look.

Congratz on getting a PS3. All the games mentioned above are amazing (even Killzone 2 which you should give a shot just for the fun multiplayer) and it would be redundant to repeat what has already been said, but meh. I would highly recommend Uncharted. Also would recommend Warhawk. I've only played the demo of Warhawk, but it's another must get game. Hell, it was fun enough that I've spend a few hours on the demo alone. I plan on getting it myself but I needs the cash.
Anyways, if you want a more slower online multiplayer game, I would recommend SOCOM: Confrontation. I'm not a huge SOCOM fan, but the game was a nice change of pace instead of just the average actiony multiplayer game. In ranked matches you only get one life per round so you have to be very careful, so it reinforces the idea of teamwork which I like. Not sure if you have a headset or not yet for your PS3. If you don't, get the SOCOM official Sony headset bundle. You get a very reliable bluetooth headset and a good game to boot. And it's only just costs a little bit more than getting the headset alone.
Keep your eyes peeled for MAG, when/if it's ever released. Killzone 2 is currently the best FPS for the money if you're into multiplayer gaming, but you'll need to find people to team up with to get the most out of the squad action [read: medic!]. inFamous is a nice little PS3 exclusive as is Valkyria Chronicles. The latter will take away much of your life, though:/
I forgot to mention Unreal Tournament III for the PS3 - they've added a buttload of free DLC for the PC and PS3 versions. And the game can be found for $20 or less in some places [Target for example]. Oh, and Folklore, one of the best PS3 [RPG] exclusives out there. Sorry, there's actually a lot out for the PS3...
In no specific order. Uncharted, Killzone 2, and LBP are probably my personal exclusive favorites on the console. Also if Heavenly Sword is out there on the cheap I'd suggest that if you like a decent GOW type game.
Seriously though, PSN, great selection, good prices.
Also; just go to a retail store and check on the selection, it's 1AM in Toronto and I'm way too tired to list all the great games I have and would recommend for PS3. I'll just name one;
Saints Row 2, awesome, balls to the walls, what GTA4 should have been, comedy action awesome.
