So, I finally stepped up and joined the legion of XBox 360 owners out there this past week. I bought my unit used over at Gamestop, along with a used 20GB HDD. The total cost was less than a new Arcade unit, and well, that one comes sans HDD, so I think I did well. Or did I? The spectre of the RROD looms over me every time I turn the thing on. It's a refurb though, so we'll see how it plays out. I've got thirty days to break the thing.
Actual cost out-of-pocket was like thirty bucks. I had a bunch of old crap lying around that I wasn't watching/playing/eating any longer, so I traded it in. And luckily enough, Gamestop was having a deal where when you trade any five games in, you get an extra 30 percent of trade on top of the 10 percent you get for using your Edge card. So yeah, I did well for having traded in several old DS games and a handful of DVDs, if I do say so myself.
Anyway, enough about that. I'm loving my 360 so far, but I'm just a poor boy. Nobody loves me, and 360 games cost a lot of money. My poorly-implemented attempt to connect to an old Queen song aside, I'm looking for suggestions from you guys as to what games I ought to be on the lookout for. However, they gotta be on the cheap. I picked up Bully for 26 bucks, and I'm eyballing The Orange Box, which weighs in at the same price, so that's the sort of thing I'm looking for. So if you guys have any suggestions for good games that a new 360 owner ought to look for on the cheap, let's have 'em!

If you own a 360, there is NO reason why you shouldn't own Orange Box.
If it breaks in a non-red ring, put it in the microwave and fry the chip. Instant red ring.
My 360 is from November of 2006. That aside, do you think it would be covered, being used like it is? If so, I'd be pleasantly surprised.
@ BSD
That game is definitely on my list.
@ randombullseye
That's another one I was eyeballing, but I think I might try the demo first, if one is available.
@ Usedtabe
I'll keep that in mind. ;)
I put in 100+ hours on that game, so it was well worth the $30 for me.
You got the extra content for free!? No wonder you're always playing Oblivion. I got mine for 26$ at Blockbuster.
I a few weeks ago found Crackdown for 15$ there and they had a special buy one get one free deal so I got Marvel Alliance free with Crackdown. Now that's an awesome deal.
@ Char
I think I saw the GotY edition over there on the cheap the other day. If I can get it used, then I can always take it back if it doesn't work for me, so there's nothing to be lost in giving it a try. I'll keep this one in mind.
I totally forgot about Gears. @_@
saints row was a pretty good good investment for about a dub.
also hit up xbox land for super cheap games as well. mgs 2, time splitters 2, silent hill 2 all ran me $5 or less each.
lol Yeah, imagine my surprise when I open it up and see two discs in there with "Game of the Year Edition" on them. I actually didn't realize this until I had already played like 40 hours of the game, so that was a sweet bonus. That was the best $30 I've spent in a long time.
@Cyberxion
I also second the recommendations for Crackdown and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. They're both great games, and Marvel is especially fun if you have three friends to play with. You can find Marvel for pretty cheap, now that it and Forza are being bundled with the system in certain deals. What is your Gamertag, by the way?
WTF. PC GAMING FTW?
I hope it lasts for you, though. Enjoy it. :)
Ohh, and the replay (theater) mode is the best non-essential addition to console FPS games.
Like Ambulance said, Xbox titles are also on the cheap, and some are 360 compatible.
So I've got a nice list of titles to look into. I'm pretty sure I saw all of 'em used over at Gamestop. So now it's all about the cash. Next payday is going to be sweet.
@ pedrovay2003
I had my doubts about whether or not it was a refurb. Though it costs ten bucks extra for a refurbed system, so I better have gotten one. Eh, whatever the case may be, I've still got a bit over two weeks for the thing to die on me before I'm unable to take it back, so we'll see what happens.
Feel free to keep the suggestions coming though. :)
Gamertag : DESTRUCT0ID (Thats a zero for the last 0)
it's bout 25 bucks used i think, and spanning 3 disks it's well worth more than that.
