So I would like to shed some more light into this "Rapture" (Squenix's upcoming MMO-- a sequel to Final Fantasy 11) thats been secretly under works for the past 5 years. Is it really coming and I hope it is a whole new adventure not connected to FF11 yet to have all of the good elements of FF11. I will admit, I don't consider my self a MMO player but, when FF11 arrived in 03, I became one of the most addicted people on this planet to this MMO. Now it seems that the light of the secret MMO is still underworks yet its being closer to coming to light, now I would like to know everything that has been hinted off from this MMO. Will it be worth to become an addict? Lets put everything on the carbuncle table...

Rapture
In August 2005, Square Enix announced they had begun working on a new MMORPG, but neither confirmed nor denied that it is a sequel to Final Fantasy XI, or that it is Final Fantasy-related.[1] Hiromichi Tanaka, producer of the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI, stated in April 2006 that developers are working to make Rapture a worldwide release.[2] He announced in February 2007 that the game was being developed for the Xbox 360 and for personal computers running the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. He also stated that it might also be brought to the PlayStation 3.[3] Square Enix announced at GDC 2008 that the new MMO will indeed target the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows operating system, and hinted that Mac and Linux clients are not out of question. [4] The game will utilize the Square Enix created graphics engine called Crystal Tools.
The Crystal Tools engine, originally named White Engine, is a seventh generation game engine built to be used with "all of the Square Enix's forthcoming next-generation games" on the PlayStation 3, as commented by Final Fantasy Versus XIII character designer Tetsuya Nomura.[1] The first games to utilize it will be Final Fantasy XIII, its spinoff title Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Square Enix's next-gen MMORPG currently codenamed Rapture. Nomura commented that the switch from the PlayStation 2 to the PlayStation 3 was difficult, saying that "the hurdles are greater than they were in the move from the PS1 to the PS2." This in turn gave way to the creation of the White Engine,[1] which was later renamed Crystal Tools.[2]
One of the main aspects of the engine is that it allows cinema quality CGI to be rendered in real-time. Nomura has commented that the engine will be able "to recreate battle scenes reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children."[3] It also handles advanced audio processing, cinematic cut-scene transition, physics effects calculations and special effects rendering.[citation needed] The engine reportedly uses four of the six synergistic processing elements that are available to games running on the Cell processor, to achieve near-pre-rendered CGI quality in realtime.[4]
In the latest GDC conference it was confirmed that Crystal Tools is focused to work with PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows and the Wii.[5]
Now the only thing missing is a date for this MMO... and the ability to jump...

Here's another screenie(s). Notice the interface at the top right corner of the screens: It resembles a PS3 controller's face buttons (square, triangle, circle, x). Could this possibly mean that attacks/spells could be bound to actual face buttons, providing a more action-oriented experience? We can only hope.
My theory is that Rapture will play a lot like WoW. My reason for thinking this is because FFXI seems adapt many concepts from Everquest, which was the most popular MMO while FFXI was under development. I think Squenix is interested in making money, so they're probably going to try and adapt gameply concepts from the current most popular MMO, which is World of Warcraft.
Either way, I really want this MMO. I loved FFXI back in the day, but its slow antiquated gameplay design pales in comparison to the faster, more action oriented MMO's out today.
