Is it coming in 2011? Rumors are starting to spread and not just from any crappy source, its coming from president of Square Enix. Wada says that the next-generation, high definition Wii will offer the same capabilities as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, while adding a brand new motion controller. Is SquareEnix thinking of going back to their roots, how does he know this type of information, is President Wada messing around with Shigeru Miyamoto going to karaoke bars in japan and loosing their tongues? who knows... but this brings up speculation.
Will the Wii2 be the next one to launch the next-gen HD gaming just how xbox took the lead this turn? Or will it just sub-par with the current gen of console war? All I know is that with the huge piles and piles of money that Nintendo has under their desks, they can probably buy the Cell chip used on the PS3 and afford to bribe more companies into exclusivity than Microsoft and have left over money to create a much better Nintendo Online experience that can match XBL but even better, make it free. Not to mention that Nintendo can backslap Microsoft and Sony really bad on motion capture crap... Natal and Sony's wand can be considered dead if the Wii2 comes out with sensors you put in your brain to control games.
I can see it now... Nintendo comes back with a vengance on FPS mixed with Teletubies Death Match!
I won't be getting the Wii 2. I can't say much else on that, but I do have a retro bone to pick..
The Wii (1) has the most potential to be the best retro gaming console of all time.. Up to this point, it does have the most retro support.. (Even if there's still more things in Japan to get than here.) But, to me, potential = titles in regions outside Japan as well.
Regarding the Wii itself, if Nintendo was serious (and I mean S-E-R-I-O-U-S) about supporting hardcore games* (*specifically, mature-themed games) this gen I'd probably support them until my house was fully in debt & in refinancing.. But, (as usual) I don't understand Nintendo. Why wouldn't they continue to release 2 (or more) VC titles a week? What would be wrong with a few more "M" rated games to balance out all the exercise games & Dancing with the Stars?
Sure, we get WiiWare titles on a regular basis (more Family "themed" games than I can shake a stick at).. But, alas, poor Virtual Arcade & Classics aren't doing too well.
My guess is that nintendo will first release a 720p Wii. Then, a couple years after that, when their sales start to dip, throw in some new colors. Then, a couple more years later after they've exhausted colors, release a 1080p Wii and continue to milk that.
The Teletubbies voices always seemed creepy to me. This is fitting. Nice sample at the end.:)
As for the Wii2, nintendo should be trying to bring it out as soon as possible so as to have a PS3/PS2 situation, only the Wii doesn't have the brilliant PS2 library but it has the userbase kind of.
Something may indeed be up but frankly, to me, it seems too soon. I don't think the NoA targetted consumer is the kind who buys a new console every four years. Seeing Nintendo push a new cycle out this early would, frankly, be a mistake.
i just can't see them providing a great online network that can compete with the other guys. and if it has this gen graphics than i'll wait for the ps4 to come and put it to shame.
i only see an hd capable wii with a proprietary hdd that may or may not play dvds. will they use a bluray disc or the dvd is my question.
Well honestly Nintendo is doing 0 effort in doing anything that goes vs Sony/Microsoft. They are really enjoying the ride this turn, but I am pretty sure that they are considering their fall back and seeing how they can come back and offer what the competition has so they can obliterate the competition.
I would agree "T" is just as hardcore & fun/addictive (like WoW). Nintendo does quite well in all-ages.. I guess, I'm just looking for more in the way of gritty action or more realism. For instance, I think Halo 3 is so "spartan" (bad joke, sorry.. my bad) and table-top/space marine/action figure-like in a way that I feel it should actually be down-rated to "T" (especially just for offline, single-player campaign only) since it is nowhere near as "mature content" as Gears, IMO.
Also, I don't think all games should be always "M", however, I do enjoy FPS's as much as RPG's sometimes (and All-ages games like Bubble Bobble Wii & Neo, which I'm such a fan I bought and enjoy both) I feel Nintendo and/or 3rd parties should have a wide a portfolio including online multiplayer as much possible. Not just M-rated or as focused on Family-only always. I know realistically sales haven't (& likely won't) justify my 'more hardcore' games thinking.
1 more point I forgot to clarify, I'm glad that Capcom and Sega are making more Imports available world-wide.. (On both Wii, Tatsunoko vs.Capcom & Yazuka 3 for PS3) I tend to forget about when they do open those doors. However the Wii Virtual Arcade in US has only 6 titles, vs. Japan's 40.

I think we're gunna cross that threshold very soon...
