So here they are folks with price and specs. No news from Acer and the other ones I found not to being as powerful as these ones and close to the $2k price point. I will need soon a powerful laptop for work using and of course for FF14 for when it comes out next year. I don't plan on buying another laptop for the next 3 years, which is when possibly a new chip technology might come out by then.

so yea, I'm not rich but this is something I will be using day and night so any advice which one should I get or what would you recommend?

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Best not be putting it on your lap, or you'll be frying your genitals.

Build a desktop PC, buy a netbook. You can save money and have a much sicker system. The Gaming laptops just don't cut it. They have so many high stress systems that they don't last nearly as long as you would think for the price. Also, you will never bring it anywhere no matter what you tell yourself now.

People, including me will help you buy parts and put it together, it's really easy. You'll save money, have a better system, more portability, and have more upgrade options. At least consider it, please. I made the choice to go with a gaming laptop when I first went into college and it was the wrong choice. I wish I had started building sooner.

Also, photoshopping on a laptop is a borderline nightmare. Since the screen can pivot back and forth, it may look nice and bright to you, but you'll send it off to someone and it'll be way too dark.

Or vice versa.

None! As gaming laptop's do not exist. Those things will last a year tops.

I would also recommend a desktop PC + a netbook. You'll get something more powerful for way cheaper. But in case you insist on a gaming laptop, I would recommend the Alienware because it has a lower native resolution. The other laptops all seem to have a 1080p native resolution, which is just too much for the graphics cards they have, unless you only play old games.

Going to have to agree with the collective thought here. Desktop and netbook would be the best choice. That said, the iBuyPower and Sager models have some impressive specs, but I've never dealt with either company before.

I would rather see you build a nice desktop for about $800 bucks, and spend about $1k on a nice HDTV plus rotatable wall mount. That can cover all of your entertainment and coding/shoop needs.

I owned an Alienware. It was a huge pain to carry around and battery life was poor.

I remember when my laptop was considered to be absurdly powerful...but that was three years ago. Take it from a guy that did plunk down 1800 bucks on a gaming laptop- get a PC. The battery life's bad, the cooling systems usually suck (Which leads to poor game performance after about a half hour), and the worst part is, they aren't upgradable. So while all my friends blaze on by to bigger and better games, I'm stuck playing HL2/TF2 and a bunch of emulators.

That alienware screen is too shiny. Alienware stuff is way overpriced anyway, not reccomended.
grafkhun's Destructoid Blog
Wait, do you need a laptop just for multimedia stuff, or are you going to game as well? If you're doing both, a laptop ain't going to cut it, no portable machine is that powerful and stable yet. But, there are some nice HP laptops for multimedia capabilities, but since you seem to be doing very intensive things, I'd suggest a desktop PC as well. It'll be cheaper, much cheaper. Like some have said, desktop pc and netbook, use the PC for all your multimedia needs, and the netbook for portability.

But if you do need a gaming laptop, the Asus G51 is great. I have it and it's been perfect so far.

I've never even spent that much money on a car. And I have 2 "muscle cars".

WHAT? No Sony? I know, I know not good for gaming but I love me some VAIO's.
MkShiranui's Destructoid Blog
... No. Don't buy anything labeled "gaming" because you'll pay through the nose for it. My PC is just as powerful as the "basic" gaming PC, and I bought it for $500 less. Of course, it looks like a regular home computer, but except for the Vista OS it will run anything.
Crunshii's Destructoid Blog
Well I guess I can wait a bit longer to see how far prices can drop. Hopefully some offers do happen for new years or so.
Velt's Destructoid Blog
For that money I would build a desktop. If I had to chose a laptop I would go with the Alienware since you live there in north america they have good support.
brainderailment's Destructoid Blog
gaming on a laptop is never worth it.
Draxxlith's Destructoid Blog
I hate to me too, but I dropped 1300 on a gaming laptop when I entered college, and I just built a desktop last year to make up for what I needed (read: wanted) for gaming. Again, do a desktop, for class, or whatever you want to do portable, do a netbook or somesuch.
For me, it was two friends and I who all did laptops at once, all 'gaming' with the idea that we would all play lan n such. Didn't pan out so much, and they're too noisy and low battery life to be used too much on the go.

THAT SAID. If you do want a gaming laptop, one word: ASUS. They make all their own parts, their tech support answers in minutes (<5 in my experience) and is understandable. AND- !!!FREE 2 YEAR WARRANTY, ONE YEAR IS ACCIDENTAL!!! so long as you buy from a direct reseller (ie not Best Buy). All you have to do is register it inside of 60 days.

I bought my Asus from xoticpc.com and never had any issues, and got the warranty. They even offer cash discounts. Look around, though, there's others, but I've liked xotic the best. I realize I sound like an ad, but it really is because they did a damn good job with mine, and contacting me when a part I wanted was out, to ask if I wanted to wait or change it. They also have links to good articles about who really makes laptops.

Sorry for the novel, hope it helps.
