About Me

Just a guy who loves to talk video games a lot. I try to be funny and fail a lot, but I swear I'm worth having around.

I'm an older gamer (read:30) and I like to look back on all the good (and bad) that I played through in the before time.

I don't game as much thanks to my 2yr old daughter, but I do keep up on the latest things. As far as she's concerned, well she likes to hit the buttons a lot, which means she could win a few rounds of DOA.

The reason for no level sharing in N+
CronosBlade | 9:09 PM on 02.25.2008 25 comments

Ah MS, is this what you're so afraid of? Sure I've got a penis level ready to go, but c'mon.

Nope, that's the reason right there:

A developer posted over in the Xbox.com forums for N+ and the following to say:

"Hi,

Nick from Slick Entertainment here. Getting level sharing in the game was our highest priority, and we had it all working quite nicely. When developing for the 360, you can't just put up a server at home to serve as a level database, the server has to be a Microsoft certified server, which easily costs more than the whole development budget we had to develop N+... So we had to get creative, and we had a method that used the leaderboards for level sharing. This was all working 100%, but unfortunately right at the end of development, we were told by the Microsoft legal team that they wouldn't allow us to share levels publically. The reason was that there was no system in place to moderate the level submissions, and they are definitely not having another Forza-swastika-car incident. However, we still do have a (somewhat toned down) version in our codebase, which we can enable very easily once they tell us that it's ok to open it up. So possibly in a future title update.... (keeping my fingers crossed because I really want this feature to be opened up as well)

So I think the petition thing is a good idea. Let them know that you want level sharing badly, and maybe they will be able to do something about it.. :)

Cheers,
Nick Waanders - Slick Entertainment Inc."

I wonder if Sony or Epic would be butt hurt if I created a UT 3 level full of hateful (or pornographic) images.

Fuck "think of the children". Fuck the children too. Let us do the shit we want to do in our games.

This is fucking retarded. Because of a few people that'll do shit like the Nazi car in Forza, the idea of being able to share levels is ruined for everyone?

Thanks a lot, Microsoft.

Oh how I've always hated "The Good have to suffer for the bad" rule. It's a dumbass rule.

Whatever happened to the "Game experience may change during online play" legal babble?

Perhaps instead of ruining a cool feature of a game they should crack down more on all the homophobic/racist/sexist douches who pollute the voice channels across Live. They are way more offensive than any map in N+ could ever be.

They have a toned down swastika-car in their codebase? Weird.

@Reaprar: I would say yes. I bought the game after hearing about how awesome it was even though I didn't really care for the demo, and I'm glad I did. Really fun multiplayer.

Reaprar, go buy it. Co-op is insanely fun.

I think we could expect this as an up and coming title update.

That car does look awesome. It's something I'd expect a storm trooper to pop out the driver side window with a tommy gun to shoot at the hero from.
Somebody should really make a game about nazi race car drivers plaguing Redmond, Washington so our hero Bill Gates has to defeat them using all sorts of over the top and ridiculous methods.
Perhaps something involving a Mecha powered by Windows Vista and made out of returned RROD 360s.

The first amendment says that the government shall pass no law to limit speech, and since Microsoft doesn't own this country (yet), this isn't an issue about free speech. (Also, stick it in your eye, Jack Thompson. I'm a gamer and I am not [completely] ignorant!)

This is why there is that disclaimer at the start of most online games. So we don't have restrictions like this.
