For those of you hiding under a rock, Qore is an interactive digital magazine of sorts. It will be out once a month and costs $2.99 per episode or $25 for 13 months. Right now if you do the 13 month subscription you get Calling All Cars (a $9.99 value) for free.
So, of course my big concern was due to a statement in an interview that kind of sounded like big demos and such would be stuck in Qore, requiring me to pay to get good demos. Well so far that hasn't occured. However there is a beta key in this one for SOCOM Confrontation. So pay $3 and get in or preorder for $5 (which goes to the price of the game) and get in that way.
So is it worth your money? Let's see what's inside shall we? And no, it isn't on Youtube yet, I looked =P
It launches with the trailer for Hulk (yes, you can skip the video). Veronica Belmont then shows up in all her hotness and explains Qore, what it is and what you can expect. BTW all the videos are 720P from what I've read.
Qore's main menu then appears. In this months episode is the following content:
Afro Samurai - Gameplay and interviews with the dev team
Hulk Trailer - 6 minutes of new footage
Secret Agent Clank (PSP) - Gameplay, interviews, artwork
SOCOM Confrontation - Gameplay and interviews
Soul Calibur 4 - gameplay and interviews
Starwars the Force Unleashed - never before seen gameplay footage, interviews, and a chapter of the Force Unleashed Graphic Novel
There are multiple videos for each one, some have different gameplay videos, so it's not one long video for each topic.
You can't fast forward or rewind however WTF. FIX THAT SONY.
Finally there is the download center which features Calling All Cars (if you bought the year subscription), A SOCOM wallpaper/theme, and the SOCOM Beta. Of course the beta isn't active yet,
and it's unconfirmed but I've read that Qore beta players will have to wait for 2 weeks after the beta starts to get in. So we'll see.
I couldn't download the wallpaper/theme, and others who bought the year said they can't download CAC so it looks like there's still a bug in this thing.
Now, the part we all moaned and groaned about, the ads. They're EVERYWHERE. Burger King, MGS4, Overlord to name a few. And they kinda come out of nowhere. You're looking through the menu and BOOM one pops up. Fuck you ads.
Overall, it's $3 and I bit the bullet for you. I wouldn't do a year subscription, I think I'll wait for others to tell me what is in the episode before deciding if I want it or not. If they can keep getting "exclusive" footage, then maybe this is worth it. Also, I'm curious to see if any demos end up getting packed into this and kept away from the PSN store.
Oh who am I kidding, I'll probably review each month for you.
CronosBlade's Score: B-
+ Cheap
+ Decent Info
+ Ability to buy into a beta
- ADS ADS ADS
- This could have been like Inside Xbox and never been subscription based
Also Qoreographed, hardQore, marine Qore, Qorelation.
No, for 25 bucks a year you get the Playstation Underground more or less. Which used to be free.
Oh dear.
The gaming world is truly a unique thing, I couldn't see this working very well in most other forms of entertainment.
