About Me

Just a guy who loves to talk video games a lot. I try to be funny and fail a lot, but I swear I'm worth having around.

I'm an older gamer (read:30) and I like to look back on all the good (and bad) that I played through in the before time.

I don't game as much thanks to my 2yr old daughter, but I do keep up on the latest things. As far as she's concerned, well she likes to hit the buttons a lot, which means she could win a few rounds of DOA.

Get ready to clean out your hard drive - Soul Calibur IV PS3 needs 8.7 gigs of space?

As seen in the above screenshot from YesAsia and if that line up there is true, you're looking at a 2GB save file (makes sense if you were to max out custom characters, but otherwise WTF) and a 6.7 GAME install.

Holy. Crap. I wonder what I don't need on my HD anymore.....

Whenever I buy a PS3, I'm going to upgrade the hard drive to somewhere around 150GB. Then again, multiplatform games like this will be played on my 360.

I'm pretty sure that's a typo since the XBox version won't have 2 GB saves.

I kind of agree with Necros on both his (racist) points.

-I have been planning on upgrading my HD since i got my PS3 2 weeks ago. Its very easy and with these kind of releases its worth it to have the space.

-Also, most multi platform games will be bought for my 360, but SC4 is an exception. Darth Vader and (hopefully) Kratos? COUNT ME THE FUCK IN!!!

In before wahhhh fest.

I most likely won't be picking this game up as I only cared for the first game in the series.

Installs are getting ridiculous. I do not like this trend. I guess I need to buy a new drive to help compensate. Would just rather have the bigger drive for a media server and not my game library. Well I guess Ill be sticking to the 360 version unless the PS3 version has enough extra to justify the size. Kratos is tempting but all my close friends have 360 so that makes it hard choice.

I dont care. It's worth putting up with than having Yoda. And that terrible 360 d-pad.

Eh, it doesn't matter. The hard drives for the PS3 are dirt cheap, so just buy a new one if you need to.

The 360 is the one you want to worry about if they ever actually start doing game installs. The HDs for that one are a tiiiiny bit more expensive.

holy shit... you could install the entire 360 version with that. Now I'm sure thats pretty much what you're doing because it can't be MGS4 big.

isn't this coming out for 360?

how is the install bigger than the fucking game?!?!?!?

lol load times. But I don't really have much on my system. a 2 gig or so rock band file, and the rest is all streamed from my compy. Then again Sony gave us a video on how to plug in any hard drive of your choice instead of theirs... so $140 for another 750 gig if I ever need it sounds good to me.

IU have heard the360 might require the HDD. Of course I don't have a source on that... so feel free to ignore me. In the end it doesn't bug me since I'll be getting the 360 version.

@ jpitner the only thing wrong with that is that the ps3 maxes out at 250 gigs so you'd be wasting your money.

I, honestly, don't believe it. That has to be a typo. 2GB for custom characters is what makes it seem so obviously wrong to me.

It's all preset stuff, a custom character is a checklist, a spreadsheet at most. The sheer amount of data that would need to go into a CSV spreadsheet to make it 2MB makes it unlikely; I can't imagine there being that much stuff to customize. And then that will take a thousand of them. Do you really expect there to be a thousand character slots, each capable of holding an unnecessarily huge amount of info for each character?

Bothering to do a 6.7M install seems stupid, but that could account for patches or something. A 7GB install for a fighter, with a 2GB save, is ridiculous.

Okay, seriously, how the fuck are they gonna justify this?! These HD instally are getting crazy. I mean, fuck, I got a 40 gig PS3 and with me owning 8 games (plus 2 PSN games), I have used 23 gigs (although I can free up 5 gigs after I delete my Haze files).

And while wh're on the topic, can someone please explain to me why any save file is over a few megs, let alone 2 gigs?

2GB save, sorry but that HAS to be a typo. There is no way that is right, as mentioned all a save should really need in it is a bunch of records of what you have so the actual models, art etc can be pulled from the game.

Oh and Chibi, I don't think we'll see mandatory installs on the 360. As long as they are selling boxes that don't include one it would be massively damaging to customer relations for them to suddenly require a hard drive.

if that is true, i'll be like 3vbo and get me a 360. I already don't care for Yoda/Vader. I just would like SCIV on the ps3.

Sony seriously need to deal with this problem.

Things people are overlooking:

Just because a game has a large install doesn't mean the 360 can't handle it. Installs are for the PS3's load times. Without them, they'd be the level of early PSP load times. Instead, the install boosts it to the 360's level.

That's so fucking presumptuous to say that Yoda is worse than Vader in the game and vice versa. You haven't played the game, you can't decide based on what you don't know.

2GB save file, while it might be a typo, it doesn't mean that the 360 can't handle it. I'm not trying to defend the 360, but I'm saying that save files don't have to be the same size on different platforms. And besides, different game infrastructure means most things in the game ARE different, so the 2GB save file makes perfect sense, even though it sounds insane.

Jeez guys, don't jump to conclusions. Just wait for an announcement/ the game to come out. I'm sure we'll get clarification soon.

@Chibi_Zero:
I heard that the 360 version requires the hard drive as well. Although I'm not sure if it will install anything on it but I think it's needed all the same. Then again who doesn't have a hard drive in their 360 by now?

Also the 2GB save file will probably be the maximum size due to the extensive character creation tools. If you don't use them I doubt your save will reach the 2GB limit.
