Why you should play Mega Man 9 on the Wii
Cowzilla3 | 2:24 PM on 09.23.2008 36 comments

I don't want to come down on either side of a console war here but I believe that the above images clearly show why everyone should be playing Mega Man 9 on the Wii if they have that choice. You may site other benefits to other systems but they are all blown away by the fact that the Wii has the controller with the closest design to a classic NES controller. You're telling me you're going to play an entirely retro fitted game with a controller that has a analog pad on it? That's an insult to the game itself and the hard work that Capcom put into it. The game is meant to be experienced with a rectangular controller, with two buttons and a D-pad that doesn't have any webbing between its directions. Playing it on anything else is like making baby Jesus cry, and not just by making fun of him but by kicking him in his Christ balls. Not only are you kicking a baby in the balls, but it's baby Jesus. For shame.

Yes in this case the Wii's lack of suitable control options for regular gaming is a blessing, so don't shun it.

Frankly, the only reason I got it on the Wii instead of the 360 is that I can't imagine trying to navigate the world with the 360's awful D-thing.

I had to weigh that against being able to message my friends while playing, having Achievements, having a more comfortable controller... it still came out Wii just because of the D-pad. ARE YOU LISTENING, MICROSOFT?
Messer's Destructoid Blog
Actually they are. They're releasing new controllers with better dpads in the new future. Or something a long the lines. I think i read that here on D-poid.

I'm too clever.

RE: Dexter

And that's from the guy that *hasn't* clearly gone insane from Mega Man Fandom, like every other Mega Man fan on this site.

Seriously, SantanClaus flipped out, Michiyo's gone all sentimental and I'm biting controllers. What's going on!?!?!?

@cowzilla
Agreed. If you're not getting handcramps you're doing it wrong!
psycho terror2's Destructoid Blog
since i have no desire for the little white box, i will have to make do with my modded (but still crappy) 360 d-pad.

unfortunately i'm not all that confident that the new 360 d-pad will be all that great. it looks like they are continuing to use the d-blob regardless of how they redesign the internal parts, and i just don't like that thing.
king3vbo's Destructoid Blog
WAT ABOUT SIXAXIS???
Zulu's Destructoid Blog
The classic controller is a lot more comfortable then the remote IMHO. The buttons are bigger, the d pad is bigger, there's no annoying B button trigger to hit accidentally, and pressing B to jump and Y to shoot with your thumb fixed vertically works very well in comparison. The wii remote alone is fine for nostalgic reasoning's, but you gotta admit, the classic controller is where it's at when playing this game.

Oh ya, I agree, the 360's dpad is garbage. That's the reason why I bought it on the Wii as well.
ghets's Destructoid Blog
Im gettin it off the PSN.

But if i had to pick between Wii and 360 i would definately go Wii because of the 360's shit D-pad
MrSadistic's Destructoid Blog
I would get it for the PS3, because I want people to look at how cool I am because I am playing Mega fucking Man fucking 9.
craineum's Destructoid Blog
Wii + Classic controller = WIN!

Basically what Zulu said.

Of course I don't have 360 or PS3, giving me little options.
brainderailment's Destructoid Blog
Seeing as the DS3's D-pad isn't a horrendous abomination, I'd play it on the PS3 considering I don't own a wii. I also never put my 360 online.
SilverDragon1979's Destructoid Blog
I agree that the Wii is probably the way to play this game, but at the same time I also think the PS3 D-pad is absolutely a thing of beauty. Yes it had 4 buttons, but I don't think it's that hard to use only two of them. ;-)

For now I'll be waiting for the PS3 version. I will admit that the thought of playing this on the XBOX30 is just a painful one. Why would you ever purchase the XBLA version if you own a PS3 or Wii?
NihonTiger90's Destructoid Blog
I went with the Wii version. I have not been let down.
Cowzilla3's Destructoid Blog
Yea I left the PS3 off here cause the controller differences weren't as drastic. Still the Dpad isn't a true Dpad and four buttons instead of to. Most importantly the comfort factor is there with the PS3, it too is not a rectangle. All these fact make the controller decidely un-retro.
Y0j1mb0's Destructoid Blog
I have a Wii but I'll rock this game on the PS3. Their Dpad is quite comfy, so I'm good. But really, Wii and the PS3 are the way to go. The 360 Dpad is an abomination.
ScottyG's Destructoid Blog
I got it for the Wii partly because it was a good excuse to actually turn the damn thing on, but mostly because it came out first. :p

To be honest I think I'll get it for the 360 as well.
SantanaClaus89's Destructoid Blog
YES I HAVE FLIPPED OUT!!!!!!!! IS IT FUCKING THURSDAY YET ZOMG
Wexx's Destructoid Blog
I have the Wii version. So good.
casualweaponry's Destructoid Blog
There are other, less obvious advantages too:

A thrown (and broken) Wiimote is cheaper to replace than a sixaxis or 360 gamepad

The Wii also uses less electrical power than the 360 or PS3. Seeing as how most people will fail (and retry) over and over and over again, go green and play the Wii version

The Wiimote is easier to bite. It's elongated shape is made for fellating; remember Shiggy practically deep throating one (Wii Music) at E3? If you can fit a 360 or Sixaxis in your mouth, wtf are you doing here? You should be in porn!
Nick Chester's Destructoid Blog
But that would mean I'd have to turn on my Wii. And after I did that, I'd probably find out that the batteries on my Wii Remote were dead. And then after I replaced them, I'd get fed up trying to sync the remote to my console (which, for some reason, is more difficult than it should be).

Also, retro is overrated. I'll play this game with the analog stick ... bite me. :D
Cowzilla3's Destructoid Blog
all valid points casual.
Darkray16's Destructoid Blog
I've gotten use to the 360 type Dpad. It feels weird and sometimes the directions kind of blend together but the shape of the controller is much more important for me.
Tubatic's Destructoid Blog
I can attest to the ease of bitage, yall. With the Wii Skin, that joint it tasty.
Tubatic's Destructoid Blog
*is tasty or *, it tasty!

Pro Tip: Use the analog stick.

Pro Tip: The Analog stick is just as bad.

I'm getting it on PS3. I need something to play on it other than my Blu-Ray copy of Batman Begins.
Gangles's Destructoid Blog
Oof, I was going to wait for the 360 version but you bring up a good point. I suppose I'll grab the Wii version then, though the dualshock has a great D-pad too.
Daxelman's Destructoid Blog
Im with Nick.

Analog is the future. Get with it or fucking bow down, you low tech dogs.

...

I still need a Wii.
Dexter345's Destructoid Blog
...? People actually want to play this game with an analog stick? It doesn't make any sense to do that!

It's like using a steering wheel to play Pac-Man.
ScottyG's Destructoid Blog
@Nick Chester:
Don't forget having to redo the Wii's wireless settings because you dared to tinker with your router since the last time you used your Wii, because god forbid the console actually allows for a wired connection...

@dexter345:
That... sounds like something worth trying. :)
Guagloves's Destructoid Blog
Got it for Wii cause I wanted a real d-pad.

I have tried to play Mega Man 1 & 2 with a analog stick and it really isn't as precise or accurate to me at least. When I am using the d-pad I feel like I have control of Mega Man. Same with Pac-Man.
michiyoyoshiku's Destructoid Blog
I play mega man with analog
TrailerParkJesus's Destructoid Blog
Yeah I'll be playing this with the analog sticks on 360. That's how I played BC Rearmed and it worked out all right.

Cowzilla3's Destructoid Blog
Everyone playing it with Analog is a bunch of sinners. I'm going to start a church and it'll be The Church of No Analog for Retro Games (TCNRG) and you'll all be going to hell where the only thing to play is Virtua Boy and just when you think you're having fun with that they'll give you a 360 but the only game that works is Yaris. AMEN!

...analog. *shakes head in dissappointment*
njsykora's Destructoid Blog
I'll be playing this on whatever console I get money for next week. Wipeout HD all the way this week.

I'll probably be PS3'ing it though, just so I don't have to delete stuff on my Wii.
Dan CiTi's Destructoid Blog
I got it off the PSN, my Wii is broken(disc drive-only though)but I'm still to lazy to fish it out. Yeah, the 360 version will probably be the worst due to controls.
