This weeks weekly Famitsu has a count down of what the Japanese (press, industry, fans, etc.) found exciting at E3 and it is a little surprising to say the least.
1. Wii Fit
2. New PSP model
3. Gameplay demo of Metal Gear Solid 4
4. Upcoming software for the PlayStation 3
5. Upcoming software for the Xbox 360
6. Announcement of the Zapper for the Wii
7. Little Big Planet
8. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
9. Peter Moore leaving Microsoft to go to EA
10. PlayStation Home
Ok, so Wii Fit being number one isn't surprising at all since Japan is now simply a giant erection for everything Nintendo makes. What surprises me is that the 360 is on there at all since the people I know in Japan tell me no one plays 360 except for the gaming hardcore. Though I guess if the votes are from industry and press that might be why.
More interesting though is that Playstation home came in after Peter Moore leaving Microsoft (an American company) for EA (another American company). Home is the base for everything Sony is doing and Microsoft's job news is more important? Not really sure how that worked out, especially in Japan.
Also of notice is the fact that while the Big N has three subjects in the top ten none of them are Upcoming Software for the Wii. Even if this point can be argued, it seems, once again, a little strange that anything Microsoft did would be more exciting than Nintendo at this point in Japan, but there you have it. Maybe some of that PR they've been pumping into the country has paid off.
Finally, SSMB????!!! It wasn't even there. Now I'm super excited about this game and want it more than anything but if I had to choose at top 10 of exciting things at E3 a game that wasn't there would be very far away on the list. I guess people are just really excited, justifiably, about the game so it didn't have to be there. Plus the chart isn't all about E3 but just gaming news, but still there was tons of other stuff that was actually there and had announcements recently.
Oh and who cares about the redesigned PSP that much...not I, not I.
Here is a more in depth (and kind of grumpy) look at it from next-gen
