When Rockvillian asked me to write this I was insanely flattered. For one it meant that someone actually thought of me as a good writer, but more importantly it gave me a chance to some how thank Niero for the amazing site he and the rest of the community have created. For someone who is usually not at a loss for words to type I find it very hard to write what Destructoid means for me or to describe how awesome it truly is. I can write ad nauseam on the most minute details of a video game but I can't seem to explain how great Destructoid is for so many different reasons. That's why I feel so lucky that I got to be a part of this and some how thank Niero for the site.
Now for some explanation, that may or may not be warranted. The video is supposed to be the story of Destructoid. E3 is the utopia at the top of the mountain that Niero wants to get to. The creatures are, of course, the big gaming sites who don't always seem too keen on accepting others into their fold and obviously the helmet is Destructoid and how Niero created a place that proved you don't have to be a big gaming site to be big. So that is that part of the story. The creation of Destructoid. But what has always impressed me is that Niero didn't stop there. He came back to the community once he made it to the top and brought us the blogs. He truly gave us all our own helmet and our own voice and let anyone be an important gaming journalist. The blogs allow us all to write and discuss gaming news and culture, they allow us to be just as important as any of the front page writers and Niero did this even though he was already at the top and didn't need to. There are also a few more inside jokes you might pick up on here and there.
Of course all of the credit for the video should go to Rockvillian as all I did was write some words and he brought them to life. I am amazed by the work as it is even better then my imagination created when I was writing. I'm so impressed by his skill and commitment. You should all PM him and tell him how awesome he is because it's truly amazing.
So I just want to thank Rockvillian and Hamza for allowing me to be able to some how thank Niero and celebrate Destructoid. It's truly amazing to be able to be part of this site and know all of you. Happy Birthday Niero and Happy Anniversary Destructoid.
Also, garlic fries from Panda are great for getting the creative juices flowing.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
about me
Hi,
Names Matt Razak and I'm just a gamer with a Wii and a 360. I'm also really, really, really, ridiculously good looking and a ninja...and humble. If you haven't noticed from my selfless self promoting or my Monday reviews I'm a film critic for a living at a local newspaper in Northern Virginia. I write at That VideoGame Blog but my heart will always belong to D-toid.
Right now I'm working on these games:
Mario Kart Wii
