My name is Jason Cook, I am a English/journalism grad with a rabid interest in gaming and game writing. I have some reviews on
Popmatters.com and would love to work for a gaming site/magazine someday soon.
I grew up on the NES, quickly advancing to Genesis, SNES, PS1, Dreamcast (RIP, brother), Xbox, PS2 and now 360 and Wii. Some favorite genres include RPGs (huge FF geek), Action and Shooters.
I also love music, sports (run-of-the-mill rabid Boston sports fan), reading and am getting into graphic novels and comics.
Currently playing:
SMT: Strange Journey
Ongoing list of games I need to buy/play:
Silent Hill
Viewtiful Joe
Okami
Fatal Frame series
Resident Evil 1 & 2
Eternal Darkness
Beyond Good and Evil
Gears of War 1 & 2
Have you tried calling Microsoft and asking if they can track the IP? Or the cops, and telling them this? I know it's been done before.
I've also heard of someone who was able to turn on his stolen xbox in the same apartment complex because the thief left a controller. Probably not the most likely way to get justice, but you never know.
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/bronx/xbox_thief_is_xbusted_aCZZCVX9AERyYYstD4m5oN (thanks Falcon Reaper), but as I said above, the only reason the cops even tried was because he was wanted for 13 other crimes.
I second, third, and fourth calling Microsoft and the ISP. Even if their customer service is horrible, this should be a special case.
Also, I dunno what you credit card setup was with your 360, but don't forget to safeguard yourself against that sort of bullshit. You should be able to clear the CC by longing into Xbox.com for yourself. You could also change your password, I reckon, though I don't know how far/long keeping him at watching distance is going to benefit you or law enforcement.
He spent 800 MS points to change my gamertag and put in MW2. Apparently, you can have the police subpoena MSoft for the IP address, but as everyone already mentioned, customer service is not exactly easy to go through. Also, my XBL account runs out in a day or so, so I may have to ask them to extend it to keep watch on this dude.
I really appreciate all the support and will probably whip up a full-length post detailing the story because it's kind of insane.
Thanks again, you awesome community.
