Killzone 2: First impressions
Corican | 10:59 AM on 02.25.2009 16 comments

*very mild spoilers about the first level*

About an hour ago I heard a knock on the door. It was the postman, delivering the mail very late.
Anyway, he gifted me a parcel in exchange for my signature. I eagerly unwrapped my very own copy of Killzone 2. Having ordered it from ShopTo, I was half expecting to get it early, but I didn't think it'd be this early.

But I'm not complaining.

So I popped it in, watched the opening cinematic, and went through the opening section which consisted of learning to move about, inside the ship. I then got into my landing craft and flew down into the demo.

Having played the demo a few times, I knew what I was doing, everything was the same as far as I could see. Went through, blew the bridge up, cleared the beach, went up into the building to open the floodgate.
Inside the building I carefully managed to shoot the guy standing on top of the office in the legs, so that he dropped down onto the floor where I could relieve him of his magnificent weapon.
With the delicious one-headshot-kill rifle I went eagerly out the door and opened the floodgates, popping heads as I went.

I then went along the walkways, providing covering fire for the squad below moving up.

The level ended with a massive hectic battle with tanks and rockets flying everywhere. I died twice. :(

But on the bright side; once, after dying, I was looking up from the ground and the Helghast that had killed me was standing over my corpse, shaking his fist at me in victory. Which was so cool that it made the death worthwhile.

It was a pretty intense battle and now I'm off to rescue a squad that's trapped in Visari Square.

I'm very impressed so far. It's exactly what I was expecting it to be:
Beautiful
Realistic
Intense
Awesome

So yeah...I haven't been playing long enough to give any more detail, I just wanted to say to everyone that is eagerly awaiting their copy; it's incredible, you won't be disappointed.

(I'll leave some comments on this blog later tonight to say anything else that I want to, such as multiplayer first experience etc etc...)

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Yeah I just tried the multiplayer, had a bit of trouble getting into a game when I set it to 'all missions' (team deathmatch+capture the flag etc etc), so I set it to just 'body count' (td) and it worked fine. The pre-game screen is really detailed and cool. The multiplayer is made especially great for me personally as I love the large amount of players.

Its great to go round in squads rather than my experience of 'every man for himself' in COD.

Yeah, the server browser seems to get "stuck" sometimes when it finds to many servers that match your preferences. Just close in on some options. Definitely play a "All Missions" game, as it is one of the most amazing multiplayer mods I have ever played. Shifting objectives, play styles and spawns mid-game is incredibly awesome.

There is this one map which has 2 bridges in kind of a desert setting and we had a position fight with 10 players each on the end of the bridges, going into cover, throwing grenades and a sniper which took out people who tried to run over the bridge. It was incredible to look at this scenery in a multiplayer game, even more so to take a part in it. At the moment, I'm really amazed at the multiplayer.

It's nice that the developers gave the enemy some reaction after killing you, instead of just standing by your body like a lifeless robot.

Straight after where the demo ends comes the first bit of SIXAXIS motion sensing jiggery pokery.

I tried it for 10 minutes.

FUCKING MOVE THE FUCKING WHEEL YOU FUCKING CUNT etc etc.

Nothing at all hooray my controller is broke!

Turn off KZ2 and try Noby Noby Boy (camera is motion control) and it works!

Go back to KZ2... And now it works first time. So i carry on again, later on in the first level i get stuck behind a door that wont open. The objective marker tells me to go through the door but for the love of christ there is no way through. Enraged i turn it off, and come back to it later.

A cutscene had failed to trigger where your partner opens the door for you!!!!

GAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

The game is fucking great though so far if i ignore the shitty broken bits.

"Realistic"

Don't use that word to describe any console FPS, unless it's going to be...
