About Me
I am the News Editor at Destructoid. I write about videogames for a living. That last sentence is as awesome as it sounds, though not always in the ways you might think.

I also play host to Destructoid's live streaming satellite studio, Couchtoid. From there, we broadcast Backlog, an attempt to work through my stack of old games one hour at a time (Weeknights, 10pm Pacific) and Saturday Morning Hangover where Dtoid writer Jordan Devore and the always lovely ImpossiblePlant play often painful games for your amusement (Saturdays, 10am Pacific).

I'm fond of all types of gaming, either on a screen or a tabletop. In terms of video games, my interests vary wildly from platformers (2D preferred) to RPGs and the occasional FPS. The greatest game of all time is Mega Man 2 and any suggestion otherwise will be met with swift vengeance.

Rock Band 2 is Coming to 360 in September, "Other Platforms" Made to Wait
Conrad Zimmerman | 3:59 AM on 06.30.2008 20 comments

In a not-so-startling announcement, Harmonix has revealed that Rock Band 2 will be arriving in 2008. More surprising, however, is that it will be hitting the XBox 360 before anything else in September with only a vague "later in the year" for anything else.

Other details regarding the release have come to light, including DLC compatibility that's going to run backwards and forwards. Anything you've downloaded for Rock Band will be instantly playable in Rock Band 2 and all future DLC will be compatible with both.

New and improved instruments will be available in a bundle with the game when it releases, though all peripherals currently supported in Rock Band will be perfectly functional with the sequel. Harmonix has yet to divulge details regarding the upgraded versions of the controllers.

Still more is hinted at in an interview with Rock Band 2 Lead Designer, Dan Teasedale. He implies that Band World Tour is highly likely to be online-capable, navigation is improved and band management sounds as if it will be much simpler to operate. Random Setlists are also going to get a change of some kind which will allow players to avoid "specific types of music" and a new mode is being added to allow for more convenient solo guitar and vocal combinations.

360 first, eh? Kind of interesting, don't you think? When questioned about it, a Harmonix representative fed IGN a slew of corporate-speak. Phrases like "great partner" and "continued support" fly from their mouth. The official line runs at nearly forty words, but I have no doubt that the internet will (perhaps erroneously) sum it up in one: Money.

I'm just hoping they got rid of the strictly defined musicians only able to play their specific instruments. What do you think of the new features coming? Is it enough for you to cough up another $60 for a new disc of music, or would you rather just grab more DLC?

This is an annoying timed exclusive.
Microsoft seems to be really after the rock crowd considering the first RockBand still has no PS3 release date in Europe with the 360 out since last month.

If RockBand 2 delivers on improved gameplay content (World Tour online is a must!), I will surely buy it. Otherwise I will most likely still buy it.

I don't understand why they can't just update the original Rock Band...

September? That's so soon.

"Microsoft has been a great partner throughout the launch of Rock Band in the last year and their continued support is instrumental"

Translation: "Microsoft keeps sending us Bitches 'n Hoes, why would we want to stop that?"

Well I own the PS3 version of the game so either way I'm already screwed and will have to wait. Whether I will get the game or not will depend on the music selection included and the new features.

I honestly and perfectly fine just buying DLC for now and keeping my original copy of Rock Band 1.

Not that I'm not sorry for PS3 owners, but I should note I'm really happy that us 360 owners don't have to wait as long.

Dan Teasedale. I can't think of a more appropriate name.

On the bright side, Harmonix can totally fuck up on the 360 version and, depending on the issues, can have it fixed for the PS3 crowd at launch. I really don't mind, as long as any problems in the 360 version are fixed. And don't forget, in this day and age, there WILL be problems at launch.

Let the 360 have it first, just means they can see what's fucked on there so the PS3 crowd get it right.

Also, do the European launch right this time.

They definitely should clean up the way characters are linked to their bands and all of that. Right now, I've got three separate characters, one for each instrument, each with several bands, because the leader has to be present for the band to play. I haven't gotten anywhere close to finishing Band World Tour, because I don't have anybody who is willing to put in the time and effort with me, on the same instrument all throughout the game.
