I guess this is where I start my introduction. I'm Darren and I love gaming.
Was that too simple? Ok, here it goes again, I have been gaming since the Playstation 2. At the same time, I was introduced to older consoles like the SNES and NES. I developed a love for vintage styled gaming. Well as vintage as it can get for me because I'm wasn't around when the NES and the SNES.
What I'm saying is that I was enamored with the 2D platformers of old, the imaginative RPG's like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII (Well among many Final Fantasy games). I also find that Japanese games are the one that evoke emotions when i play them. The sad feeling when Aerith was killed, the joy of beating Koopa to save Princess Daisy. These games speak more to me than what is being churned out now.
Well here comes the rant part. Gamers now I feel are being dumbed down by the mass produced, grossly colored and needlessly violent FPS in the market. Really, is shooting people and being shot in games the best we expect for the industry? It realy irks me to see gamers come out of Gamestop and laughing with his idiotic bro buddies about some dumb military shooter or some asinine Space Marine shooter or god forbid sports games. Don't they know buying these games mean more dumb FPS'es are being made while genuinely good games like Catherine, Shadows of the Damned ( I love Suda 51!!) and Child of Eden don't get the love they deserve?
I really felt like berating these mouth breathers for choosing to play stupid shooters the next iteration of Madden or whatever. Where is the fun in shooting things or pretending to play football? No imagination whatsoever! >:(
Whatever, these neanderthals shouldn't be called gamers if all they play are shooters or sports games. They are what i feel what is part of what wrong with the state of the Gaming Industry. And don't get me started on bandwagoners after a niche title become a hit. But that is for another blog entry.
Hope it did not become too preachy and sorry for no pics. :) read
