When did you start playing games? I can honestly say my entire life. My dad used to let me play computer games on his desktop back when most households didn't even have a computer at all.
I play drums in a band called documentary. Music and Videogames together are two of the biggest parts of my life.
If you're interested you can hear my band here or even better, see it here!
My band is something of an experiment. We created the Myspace page for the sake of venues, but otherwise we do NOT use it at all. All of our shows are advertised via Word of Mouth and old school methods. The only online advertising is done by us on our personal Myspace/Facebook pages to our real-life friends.
Lady Gaga.
She's everywhere now, and I can't stand it.
I don't want to go too in depth of why I hate her, but it's mostly how unoriginal and boring her music is.
With that I present you the following bands/artists that aren't Lady Gaga, and are better. If you do happen to like her music, that's fine by me, but you should give these songs a shot. These are all off the top of my head and from my iTunes list.
Massive Attack - Dissolved Girl
I'll start this one off with one of my favorite songs of all time, and one that you'll probably recognize. Neo was listening to this during the first Matrix movie. They're more famous than you would think; their song "Teardrop" is the theme for the show "House", and they did the soundtrack for "Unleashed" (AKA "Danny the Dog")
Bat for Lashes - Sleep Alone
I was first introduced to this artist through the website "AudioPornCentral." Don't let the name fool you, it's ONLY about music. Mostly electronic and mashups. I suggest heading there if you're into either of those!
Her voice is eerie and mesmerizing, and I love the music! Especially since it's created with a live band.
Crystal Castles - Alice Practice
Those of you familiar with the show "Skins" might recognize this, it was featured in an episode. A friend I used to work with at Musician's Friend was playing this while testing amps, VERY loud. I went over to his desk to hear it from the start and bought the CD a few days later.
It's rough, it's dirty, and I love it.
Lights - Saviour
I have NO IDEA why I like this song, but I do. APC turned me onto her awhile back, and to this date I think her album STILL isn't available in the US.
Pop and Eletronic is a thin line, she stradles it.
Enter Shikari - Sorry You're Not a Winner
Sorry to get a little heavier on you, but this band is not to be missed. I think a lot of people here are already familiar with them.
Imogen Heap - Aha!
You might have heard this in a recent movie/trailer....do you know which?
Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Alive)
I felt at first that this one was TOO obvious and didn't need to be included, but you never know. Plus this live mix is amazing!
If you only know this from the Kanye song, shame on you.
Right-o kids. Do me and yourself a favor; if you enjoyed any of the tracks above, go check out some more music by them! After Destructoid's excessive front-page love for Lady Gaga, I felt I had to set things right.
I don't listen to a lot of electronic music, and I've never been to a live show, but I know what I like.
Feel free to make any suggestions to me or other readers in the comments!
With that, I leave you with a special treat.
The Demonstration - Bad Romance (Lady GaGa cover)
(She is aware of this and has posted her approval, which I gotta say is rad of her!)
While I know pretty much all the groups you mentioned, and they're all awesome (even used Daft Punk in my PAX EAST contest entry), THANK YOU for bringing up LIGHTS!!! ^_^ She's an indie electro-pop artist in Canada, which is probably why you can't find her CD in the States. Her other big hits are Drive My Soul, February Air, and Ice!
<3 crystal castles. and wow, there are some good gems in this blog. enter shikari sounds amazing and i'll definitely be checking out more of their music. also, bad romance cover.. i'm speechless.
I was a little harsh, I had to get your attention. I don't despise her or her music, there's just better options out there that are getting ignored. I needed to fix that.
I have to say I didn't liked any of the songs you mentioned... I guess I'm a little bit too old school when it comes to my electronic sound and my most beloved groups are from the 70's mostly the 90's.
I have a hard time enjoying modern Electronica but I guess that's the price to pay when you grew up with Faithless and Eurythmics.
I also have a very sweet sweet spot for British Eletro....Gary Numan...yeah...
I actually wasn't familiar with Enter Shikari before reading this, but I'm definitely checking them out next I get a chance. Much love for Massive Attack and Daft Punk, though. Mezzanine is one of the best albums ever.
Glad you posted this; I'm really in the mood for more electronic stuff after blowing through Hot Chip's entire back catalog this week.
Her UStream acoustic versions of all her songs are effing awesome! They're still on YouTube and were used to help promote her tour and all, which I missed . . . =( Still, she's hella awesome, talented, and pretty cute as well! =D Also, I must ask, did you get your username from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?
1. Crystal Castles steal music? Proof or get out. :P They sample, sure.
2. Yes, my name's from It's Always Sunny! Greatest show ever.
3. I haven't heard of Ellie Goulding, but I'll look her up.
4. I'm not familiar with Ratatat, hence their exclusion. Will look up.
I had band practice last night and afterwards we went to a bar to get some shots. I went up to the digital jukebox (if you don't know the newer ones have access to the internet and can play a TON of songs)
I was pleasantly surprised to see they had both Bat for Lashes AND Lights on it!
It's official; I dig Ellie Goulding. Thanks for the suggestion!
On a side-note, I think it's pretty funny her CD is called Lights. I was trying to find a torrent of Lights' CD (I know...I'm unemployed and it's not available in the US, so I'll download it and buy it when I'm able to. For reals.), and hers popped up lol...went to YouTube.
I had a feeling, lol. Still, it's super lame we don't get FX up here in Canada, so the only way to watch it is online, but like all the streaming sites get taken down like immediately . . . >_<
As for LIGHTS' CD, as far as I'm concerned, the self-titled CD is just an EP, and her only official CD is "The Listening" With that said, try to find some of her covers on YouTube as well, like Akon's Don't Matter, Phil Collins' In The Air Tonight, and The Backstreet Boys' I Want It That Way.
Oh snap really? That sucks. How does that work?
Anyways, check this site out; http://www.strikegently.com
It's a movie/tv/music "leak" blog. It has all of Season 5 up there right now, and I'm sure they'll have the new ones when they air.

Last I saw the CD is planned for the states with distribution through a different label, it just hasn't happened yet.
We do this thing called Stereotoid that's just music fans from this site talking about music. It's pretty neat though I am a wee bit biased.
Have you heard the new Massive Attack CD? Brilliant.

Anyway I love all those songs. Bat For Lashes had my FAVOURITE album of 2009 (even after La Roux)
Have you heard of Ellie Goulding? She's pretty new and I think she's gonna be really big this year.

To watch It's Always Sunny, I suggest Hulu (hulu.com)
They're allowed to have 5 episodes up at a time. When it's running new, it's the 5 newest ones. Right now they're rolling through the last season.

Hulu is super awesome though
