“I Am Legend”, starring Will Smith, is about a scientist, Robert Neville, who is the last known survivor of a widely spread infection which was supposed to be the cure for cancer. Obviously, something went horribly wrong and the serum has turned its users into blood thirsty monsters.
While the concept sounds quite intriguing, its execution leaves the viewer wanting much more. It’s easy to say that more than half of the movie is completely silent, while this was done quite well in “Cast Away” starring Tom Hanks; all you really want from this movie is someone, or in this case, Robert Neville, to say something.
The movie starts out as a quick introduction into Neville’s lonely and actually quite dull life. You soon realize that these monsters that Robert Neville is taking shelter from are only able to come out at night; otherwise they will literally cook under the sun.
This film also has some serious plot issues. By the end of the movie you know quite well what has happened with the people on Earth and what this infection really is. Unfortunately, throughout the film you’re questioning certain plot points that the movie doesn’t completely clarify until the conclusion.
Will Smith’s performance is really what saved this movie. There are many emotional moments in “I Am Legend,” and Smith really knocks it out of the park. He executes another knock out performance similar to his last movie, “The Pursuit of Happyness” which netted the talented actor an Oscar nomination.
Throughout the movie you learn certain things about Robert Neville himself. His family, what he really had to do with this outbreak, and his constant struggle to search for a cure for this virus.
While most of these points may seem negative, “I Am Legend” does have some solid elements in it. It provides some good cheap scares, some solid acting from a talented actor, incredible shots of New York completely disheveled, and a great plotline for a very peculiar character, Robert Neville.
If you’re looking for a film with a solid story structure, go somewhere else, but if you’re a looking for a film that’s mildly entertaining and just good enough to actually pay for, check out “I Am Legend.”
Also, if you dont wanna see this movie, you should at least check out the incredible Dark Knight trailer in the opening coming attractions. Don't fuck with Heath Ledger.
Smith is the 3rd greatest actor of the new Willenium.
So this isn't the sequel to Hitch, then?
Loved the movie but dont take girls who love animals
I would agree with your review...."mildly entertaining" is about right. This movie has a boring ending.
no
its literally one of the best movies i have ever seen
and if you think the ending is boring, then you might want to check your pulse to see if your not dead, or maybe your just a boring person.(maybe you should move to IGN)
i will download it. no theater visit for this one
Disappointing, i expected it to be great :[
read the book. seriously.
i watch this in IMAX and i have to say it was perfect execution, took from omega Man what it needed and left the rest to story telling perfection. The sequel which has already been pitched and might come to pass has a wonderful story arch to move from, sadly no Smith but in the end i was very satisfied and IMO it was worth the 1:20 drive to see it in vivid IMAX glory.
an absolute must see of the season.
thanks.
i will wait for it to be available for 'On Demand', in the Free Movies section.
I have to admit this was one of the best movies I've ever seen.
It looks cool, and because I'm not some jaded prick who hates every movie that's released, I'll probably be entertained.
i like how you used the word disheveled.
ahem.
yea, prolly not gonna see the movie anyway. there's others that are more appealing.
