Jason Statham, the star of “The Transporter” and “Crank,” stars in a new film, “The Bank Job,” which is based on a true story of a 1971 East London bank heist, and as you would assume, everything goes wrong. People are double-crossed, killed, and Statham and his crew are stealing from the wrong people.
Statham plays Terry Leather, a car dealer owner that has a history of less than legal activities. He was out of the crime-life until he gets a visit from an old friend, Martine Love. Love has a proposition for him which involves robbing a bank’s vault while the alarms are currently out of commission.
Leather assemble a crew and all goes well until they find out that there are some extremely important documents in some safe deposit boxes they stole, and everyone except the Queen herself tries to get their hands on the thieves.
“The Bank Job’s” story involves the tale of Michael X, real life drug pusher, extortionist, and pimp. Michael X supposedly had taken incriminating photographs of Princess Margaret in the 70s and threatened to release them if he were faced with criminal charges. Those photographs are one of the documents that Michael X himself and other crime lords are trying to get back from Terry Leather and the rest of his team.
“The Bank Job” is an incredible joy ride that is at straightforward as it gets; which isn’t a bad thing in the least. It does take a few turns that you have to pay attention closely in order to figure out what really just happened, but other than that, the movie’s plot is quite interesting and you just want to keep watching.
The characters in “The Bank Job” are one of the best aspects of the movie. Most of them have all known each other their entire lives so you can expect what a bank heist would look like if a bunch of childhood friends decided to rob a bank in London.
Underneath it all, “The Bank Job” is a comedy, a good one at that. The character relationships are just so smooth and seamless is that it provides for a very funny experience. Most of the comedy is usually under the table and you have to listen closely in order to catch the really funny bits throughout the film.
The best part about “The Bank Job” is by far the ending. While I don’t want to spoil anything for you, expect to see a lot of twists and turns that almost make you second guess of whether or not the movie is actually a true story.
The film is filled with comedy, romance, and it’s an absolute thrill ride that everyone really should be running to go see. “The Bank Job” is in theaters now.
