Since I haven't seen anyone post a blog about the recent update here are some new things about Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 as reported by
BASHandSlash.
> IW has control of the game
> IWnet servers will host multiplayer
> DLC will be a charged item for PC
> No dedicated servers
> Matchmaking system used to play with similarly ranked players
> VAC instead of PB
> Semi-capable password servers
> Semi-capable ad-hoc servers
> Competitive play is dead
> MW2 mods would not be possible
> Full integration into Steam
Now if you're a PC gamer you know how much of a terrible decision this is. As of Sunday, October 17, 2009 11:46 PM EST there are 1,501 signatures on the
petition against these changes. . No doubt we'll see Jim posting about how PC gamers whine too much about our point and click games.
Also you can see there are many upset players on the
Infinity Ward forums. I guess for now we can wait for FourTwoZero to post
system specs...
Either you're trolling or the Online for the PC is dead already.
My whole reason for buying it on PC is the mods and the online service.
And now that's all gone to hell.
I signed the petition.
@hood; But they -aren't- the norm for PC versions, and nor should they be. There's no reason not to have dedicated servers or modding on a system that can support them.
Except the VAC thing, Punk Buster is a broken bag of shite. Then again, Steam isn't much better when it decides it's going to start kicking you.
No mods, dedi servers or even a server list? Fuck that. I'll enjoy this game for free courtesy of Mr. Internet until this changes or it's dirt cheap.
Dont use this as a bullshit excuse to pirate it. Man up and dont play it all together if you are that unhappy with the new system. Dont be such a pussy.
Don't buy it! If people buy it now, then it's likely to become standard (more money? Yes please!), and that would be very bad for us all.
Don't like it don't buy it.
Petitions to try and change a company's product seems really odd to me. It's like petitioning McDonald's because you don't think their fries are the right amount of yellow.
But with the exception of the Steam stuff (which im cool with), the rest of these decisions are a pile of wank.
Actually it's more like McDonalds charging %50 more for %50 less french fries.
This is the PC community we're talking about. They're generally more knowledgeable about mods and servers.
On the other hand, PC gaming did this to itself by being a pirate friendly platform.
> No dedicated servers

I hate matchmaking only. Is crap. We are not retarded, we can figure out how to use filters in all those lists of servers.
Really I wont be buying this game now, one less in the road to december but still, it hurts to know that it could have been better than the last one, if not because of stupidity.
Additionally as has be mentioned before but it bears repeating is why does this matchmaking need to take the place of dedicated servers? Why can't we have both, like you know the 'quick join' option?!
