Meet Pip Brown AKA Ladyhawke, the guitar-wielding electro-rock-pop Kiwi vixen. I came across (ahem) the promo for her upcoming album at work and the front cover is the single image that could strike fear into even my beloved girlfriend's eyes.
- The SNES control pad in her hands
- The Rambo scarf round her head
- The light gun dangerously close to you knows where
- The look of determination and intent on her face
- The cats... Now they just top off the treat
OK, so I did a little bit of research into this character and found that the album art isn't just some gimmick she is pulling to try and win fans like me... In actual fact, she states on her Myspace page that she "loves video games" and that is before she mentions guitars. Nintendo is in her top friends, her official site has it's own top down shooter and there is a link to Gamepsot.
The best bit about this all is that her music is great too. Well, I think so anyway. It's like Blondie meets Peaches or something.
Peace out.
I keep meaning to listen to Ladyhawke. But anyway, my friend books these like menagerie gigs where he tries to get anyone he can to play (He's had Operator Please, Dead Disco, Slow Club and a bunch of other bands you've never heard of)
And if he wasn't lying, he said he had booked Ladyhawke so I may go and see her then.
She sounds interesting to say the least.
Where is this? I see she is doing an in-store at Pure Groove...
Ps. I've heard of all of those bands. Operator Please make me feel worryingly old though.
I have no clue where it is
He hasn't revealed much about it.
Operator Please are really young, but they're not that exciting live. Although they did a brilliant cover of Whip It by Devo which had a huge sing along. It was awesome!
Sounds cool. Yeah, I think Operator Please kind of got over-hyped in a 'they're really young and really good' kind of way.
I'm loving this Ladyhawke album.
I'd fuck it.
Awesome. I've heard of her but I don't think I've heard any of her stuff that wasn't remixed (I liked those though). I'll have to rectify that.
Who did the album art?
