About Me
OK, hmmmmm, where do I start? I guess I should start at the beginning of my gaming life. I'm talking summers spent in Clacton arcades wasting 10p's on Championship Sprint, Double Dragon and Turtles. I'm on about California Games, Daley Thompson and Winter Olympics... Aaaaaah, the C64 days, when I was but 5 or 6 years old, seemed the sunniest. I swear it was either bright sunshine soaked summer or just plain snow in those heady times.

Nowadays, like the weather, gaming has gotten complex... So much choice and so little cash.

In a house with many consoles and far too much gaming testosterone, I devote most play time to my PS3. I don't have a preference for game type, although I'd say FPS's float my boat the most and RPGs haven't grabbed me by the balls once, yet.

Right now I'm playing
Black Ops, FIFA 11, Enslaved and Fallout 3 (GOTY Edition)

HAZE - My thoughts and feelings...
Clance | 6:56 AM on 05.12.2008 10 comments

OK, so here we are. It's coming up to the middle of 2008 and we have finally got a taste of the new PS3 exclusive FPS Haze - 'Finally' could be an understatement as the full game was originally expected late 2007, was it not??? So.... Is it going to be any good after all this faffing around???

THEY ARE THE JUNGLE

A couple of my views on the demo:

1) Maybe it was just my shite telly but without an injection of Nectar I couldn't see any of my enemies in that jungle... I guess this is kind of the point but when they are all glowing white it almost takes away from the satisfaction of the actual kill. I mean, I'm no sick bastard who enjoys looking into the white's of their eyes as they fall but watching the animations of someone being shot in FPS games is one of the best bits. Like I said though, perhaps on a jumbo HD TV (Sony Bravia sooooooon!), perhaps this is slightly less of a problem.

2) You fall easier when in co-op mode, right? When I did it on my own I was fine but then seemed to embarrass myself a few times when playing with others.... They had to help me out a few times (often in ridiculously quick succession). Maybe I had one good round and then went to pot...

3) IS THERE ANY POINT OF A DEMO??? Right, a game like Haze is highly anticipated and has been for a long time. As it has been delayed for a long while, people will expect an amazing game. The demo is good but it is not amazing and I feel that Ubisoft could well be throwing lot's of eggs into a basket that leaves some players feeling a little flat. Basically, I feel that they are running the risk of losing more customers by giving them an opportunity to play the game (not that it seems a bad game. To the contrary IMHO). It could swing one way or the other with opinions and people being exposed to it for the first time etc, but is it a risk worth taking? I hope so for Ubisoft. I'm getting it.

Haze is a game.

1) But yes...it is a jungle and they are wearing camo like uniforms so it IS harder to see. Only idiots would wear a bright color like oh I don't know, yellow.

2) Perhaps your friends/others were helping you get shot in the back. Friendly fire is on and...well computers are less likely to shoot their teammates.

3) I don't think Haze was a high enough profile game to warrant a no demo. There is so much mix-reaction to the game out there.

Thought the demo was balls tbh. Looks like crap on my 37" HDTV, and plays like crap too, nothing special about it at all, bar the Nectar effects!

Cheers.

"Only idiots would wear a bright color like oh I don't know, yellow." Hahahaaaaaa ..... hahahaaaaaaaaa

You're right about the mixed reaction too Blindsidedork, I was just wondering whether it was a good idea or not. No expert here. CALkulon didn't like it, maybe once keen but swayed away from it now? I feel the demo did the game little justice, as the use of vehicles is a very prominent feature and a selling point. the demo just washed over the fact though, I feel.

I still enjoyed it though but I don't want to use that Nectar too much. I guess it all changes when you switch sides. I will spot the yellow bastards in the trees when that happens!

I actually heard vehicles was a horrible part back in the day when it was revealed at an E3.

I don't know...I'll pick it up cause I like to play with my PS3 and the demo was fun enough. Co-Op makes everything better too.

I hope you're wrong about the vehicles. Maybe they were one of reasons fopr the delay...

I think it'll sell loads off the back of increased PS3 + GTAIV sales, particluarly as it is an exclusive. People love those things.

Although I'm a 360 owner, I was looking forward to this when it was still a pseudo-PS3 exclusive title. From the videos I've seen and previews I've read, though, it seems too below average to spend my time and money on even if I did get a chance to play.

Sad such a promising idea/IP has already seemingly failed.

Yeah, I was looking forward to it - mainly because the great team behind it. Just didn't enjoy the demo at all, will wait and see what the likes of GamesTM make of it before I consider picking it up.

One thing I will say is that the grenades feel a little weak compared to those on GTAIV. A demo at this moment in time is always going to be subconsciously compared to, arguably, the best game ever.
