So I just came back from staying the New Year's at a friends beach-house down in the Outer Banks, NC. Before I packed up my clothes, iPod, and other toiletries, I looked to my desk to see my lonely Gameboy SP sitting on it. I went over and picked it up to discover that Pokemon LeafGreen was in it. Sensing a desire to play again, I put it in my pocket just in case.
The moment I got there, I and my 5 friends discover that no one brought a game console. Since we're all Gamers/College Students/4Channers etc. We were all dismayed at this fact. So we decided to pass the time by drinking and playing strip poker. I was bored and decided to start playing LeafGreen. I noticed I was at Misty's Gym and after getting my ass raped I decided to go on a grinding spree. Before I knew it, I was in Diglett's Cave, beating Lt. Surge's ass, getting seasick on the S.S. Anne, etc. I'm now in the Pokemon Tower getting freaked out by THE GHOST. I can't stop playing. What is wrong with me? Is it the accessibility of Pokemon? The engaging system of fighting and raising stats? The feeling of joy when your strategy of using Weepinbell's Wrap combined with Poisonpowder finally comes through for you? I have no idea. All I know is that I can't stop playing and I won't stop until I have every one of those cuddly bastards.
So Destructoid, am I alone or what? I know you guys have games that you thought you'd never play again but ended up getting sucked back into.
I'm still playing the DS one. Pearl/Diamond and it's a lot of fun even to this day. Granted, I have other games that entertain me much more. Regardless, Pokeman is still quite entertaining.
Oh Mr. Cheeks, you are so funny. I think it may be because it's a nostalgic trip back into my youth where all I cared about was getting my Charizard to Level 100 and beating another kid's ass on the playground with him. Nowadays, I don't even know how many pokemon there are now. =/
I normally dont play rpg's, I hate level grinding, I hate random battles. And yet I enjoy playing pokemon, but I often ask myself "which team is the right one?", because there is a lot of great pokemon....but also a ton of shitty shit pokemon.

pokomans not addictive, you've just been brain washed by the subliminal messages from the show, the local radio station, billboards, street signs,and dancing clowns.
@Southparker
I think the subliminalizing definitely started with these videos:

As for this article, I don't know exactly. It sure wasn't the show for me, even though I would watch it. And it definitely wasn't Pikachu. Maybe it was because the games were good in a grindy, collector-type way.
While I can understand why you'd still play the pretty much the same game after all these years, I am luckily not afflicted with this same problem. Pokemon got boring to me after Red and Blue. Or maybe when I turned like 15. I just can't play that game anymore. It's too damn cute or something. But I will say that the whole element vs element way of playing works great and is also very simple. Anyone can play it. It's just become stale for me.

Just wondering if the ass raping was part of the pokeman or the strip "poke-a-man" part of the night.
It's the damn MTV that ruined you kids.
And BET Jamz.
