Valve finally gave the 360 TF2 a worthwhile update
Christiangamer | 11:30 PM on 07.21.2009 27 comments

Anybody that has the Orange Box for the 360 should load up Team Fortress again. Valve has given us the ability to limit our class slots, change crit frequencies, and I'm sure there's some other stuff. Still haven't got our weapon update, but after playing a game that was limited to just Snipers and Spies, I gotta say I had a lot of fun. It adds something new whenever you can't play as your favorite class or the classes our limited.

YAY!

Proof that Valve actually loves the 360:

I wouldn't go so far as to say that Valve "loves" the 360 just yet. The PC version and the 360 version of TF2 are like two completely different games. This is just a small step in the right direction to shortening that divide.

It's about time they gave us another update. However everytime I go to play there's no one on ranked and very few people on player matches. :\

Heh

Retarded elitist attitude cause you think you're special cause you play FPS on PC's.

That's cute.

Nanbu, as a pretty effective troll you should have been able to spot that. I mean, a good number of your anti-pc comments have been similarly brief, inflammatory, and retarded.

Anyway, good for 360 players, sounds like the update contains many useful options that PC servers have available. I hope for your sakes this is a sign that they're getting their act together about this, they promised a big update quite some time ago.

FUCK YEAH! I placed Fortress on the PC and, suprisingly, I hated the controls. I felt right at home on a controller, apparently. It's really weird considering people always saw keyboards are better for shooters.. beats me what they're talking about.

@Dyna

It's not that keyboards are better, it's that Mouse aiming is much more precise than aiming with the stick. Keyboards are clunky for moving and changing weapons unless you have something like this

@Ajaxender

Just ignore Nanbu, he's butt hurt about PC gaming because he lacks the money and know how to build a cheap gaming rig.

@Nanbu

Cool story, bro.

@Chronoswing: Changing weapons is clunky? Don't you have a scroll wheel on your mouse?

@Vexed

Yes but that is slow compared to just hitting the number key. Although in TF2 all you really need is to utilize the last weapon key which is q. Don't get me wrong I love the keyboard/mouse combo, just for people who are used to the controller find the keyboard a clunky interface as with the controller everything fits in your hand so nicely and your not reaching for things with your fingers, your thumbs and index fingers all that is required to play.

I have heard that the reason Valve haven't put up updates on Xbox live is because Microsoft want to charge for them, and Valve don't.

I would say that's about right.

The reason was stated a while ago, to be:

"It's still coming, naturally, but it seems the code jockeys at Valve are having a little difficulty fitting all that updated goodness onto the console's 512 MB of RAM."

It is. Microsoft charges for each update of a game and extra for the amount of achievements, or so I've heard. I think it's just the achievements.

The amont of achievements you can put into a game are at a limit, too, and if you wait a few months, you're allowed to put more in the game. Something like that, I know it's on the Team Fortress website.

Anyways, since each Valve update churns out an asston of achievements, putting them into the 360 is a real tough issue. I would imagine they had enough time to put in the first update, at least, but then again I'm not doing the math.

How can anyone argue that an analog stick>mouse? The sensitivity setting is astronomically larger on a mouse, which allows for more precise aiming.

Even when I was bitter that I couldn't afford a good computer, I was still not ignorant enough to dispute that. I can understand being tainted because you can't get a high-end PC, and the hundreds of hours of console LAN-partying, but...c'mon!

Sure, there is aiming, but that's really it. The buttions are closer and easier to use and switch weapons with, and the analog stick used for moving is far better. I personally play as the scout all the time, and with the sticks I can zip by enemies and harass them with ease.

hahaha ;p good times

man with some a vehement response ur clearly a console elitist :P

I'm not really that elitist, I have A LOT of consoles. I just believe that consoles are good at some things (fps, mmo, rts) and consoles are good at some things (fighting games, beat em ups, action adventures, and in general 3rd person games are more fun on consoles).

Now honestly I wouldn't care if they created fps for consoles, it wouldn't harm pc fps right? but it does ;p

But TF2 is largely not one of them, so like Christiangamer said, I don't care and I do infact think it's kinda cute :P

Mouse wheel for switching weapons in games like COD - Keyboard movement works just fine. Just look at the hardcore Quake/UT tourneys.

Also, to write off "aiming" as "really all that it has" is a bit odd. For non-twitch shooters (and even some twitch shooters), aiming is everything: TF2, specifically as the scout, is one of the only shooters that console controls may be comparable for, because you don't need pinpoint sniping/long range rifle sensitivity like both Call of Duties need.

@mag the scout? I woulda said the pyro... A controller is terrible for the scout cause it's not just aiming it's turn speed and general mobility that get effected, something which is vital to the scouts performance and survival ;p

Are you kidding, Dao? Turning is much smoother in junction to aiming, since the analog sticks are so perfectly placed next to eachother.

However, the directional keys in junction with the mouse is so wonky and slippery.

not it's not o_0 directional keys are for strafing and mouse is for turning, it feels very smooth not to mention a lot more accurate. You won't ever overturn. Sticks are NOWHERE as smooth for movement then a keyboard and mouse.

Haha this debate will never end. Luckily, I grew up on PC fps games, then became a Halo fanatic, so I'm used to PC fps controls. To me, if you take two equal gamers, one on PC, one on console, the PC will win every time with superior aiming. It's like saying console RTS games are easier to control.

That's the funny part about it mag :P See it's not really a debate, in every pc gamers mind there is seriously no questions asked that it a mouse and keyboard combo is better, yet consoles still have to defend ;p.

And it's pretty obvious too, it's not like Halo was the first FPS on consoles, half life, serious sam, and all the big ones got ported as well.

They tanked like hell cause they control like crap, but now you have "more realistic" games where it's not so twitch and the parred down abilities of the controller becomes far more able to handle it, not near as well of course but not near as bad as before.

Now don't go through "goldeneye" in there because while the game was awesome it's just MORE of a reason :P First the turning was incredible slow, the aiming was absolutely terrible as well, which is why there was an aim assist. Not to mention practically everything you shot was on the same plane and shooting up or down without being at an angle was a sure way to die (good luck aiming up at someones head and strafing when ur not on an incline.)Also the n64 controller as magical and awesome :P
