Genres I haven't experienced (episode 1!)
Christiangamer | 3:28 PM on 05.22.2008 9 comments

Okay so I might try to start a series of blog post talking about video game genres I have yet to experience. I'd appreciate if I got some comments telling me that this belongs in the forums and I'd also like the comments about some games I should start the genre with.
2D Fighting Games
Yeah, I know, FAIL. Right? How can I call myself a gamer if I haven't ever played a 2D fighting game.
Well, it started with a bad experience not using MAME. I loaded Marvel vs. Capcom and I just couldn't get the controls down right. Maybe it was because I was using a keyboard, but it seemed like there were 4 different buttons for punches and 100 attacks, and don't even get me started on trying to pull special hydoukens off with a keyboard. It's hard as balls (to me). Maybe, it's not the fact that I was using a keyboard that made the game seem so complicated, maybe I just suck at fighting games, but dang after playing Marvel vs. Capcom, I just couldn't see the big deal with fighting games.

So complex!

So anyways what cheap 2D fighting game should I try out? Guilty Gear on the Wii? Street Fighter on my 360? I'm up for any suggestions. I promise I'll try it out if it sounds good. Maybe one of y'all can tell me a good beginners fighting game.

If you have a Wii, then you're $8.00 away from one of the best fighters around. Street Fighter II, man. Check it out.

Dont they have a demo of Street Fighter on Live, I think they do try that out. The keyboard would be impossible for me. Never played Guilty Gear.

Yeah, Street Fighter's good for beginners. You'll have to work your way up to the complexity of Marvel vs Capcom

Street Fighter III 3rd Strike FTW!, and complexity of MvC? take Cyclops, Ryu, and Cable and game over

I've have Guilty Gear on the Wii, and it really is an ace 2d fighting game. I'd suggest it over anything else unless you have a ps2.

nooo whatever you do, do NOT get street fighter on the wii.
it has the worst control for a 2d fighter. get it on xbox live or ps3. especially seeing as how SF2 HD remix just came out. I'll even teach you a thing or three if you want. my gamertag is rab420
