Not my Turning Point gaming rig
Chos | 7:08 PM on 04.03.2008 5 comments

I saw the contest and just wanted to get in there for the goodness.

Pictured but not obvious: my Zune, a lamp made from a tequila bottle, a penguin, my WoW mouse pad, and Darth Vader in all his glory (he's on the corner of the laptop).

Not too bad of a laptop, I just wish it had some game. While it does have 2 gigs of ram and an average CPU (Core 2 Duo @ 1.50GHz), it does not have a video card. It rocks out a Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset. Basically it can run games from around 2003 and that's about it. I'm not complaining though. It gets the job done for Dota.

Which games do you want to see on Virtual Console?
Chos | 2:39 PM on 04.03.2008 33 comments

If you can't tell from my profile, I'm big into Earthbound. I was trolling the Mother 3 translation site when one of the posts linked to a Starmen.net forum post about suggestions for Virtual Console games. Apparently, Nintendo has an ad in their latest issue of Nintendo Power that suggests if you want to see games on VC, then just send off an e-mail with your top 5 suggestions...
...
Excuse me...

THANK YOU WELCH'S, MERCIFUL GOD OF JAMS AND JELLIES!!!
I KNEW YOU WOULD COME THROUGH!!!

Seriously, what the hell took so long Nintendo? This should have been done from the moment the concept of VC took off. I understand that they might "eventually" get around to having their entire library online, but why not start things off right with what people want to see?

If Nintendo follows through on this, then they will successfully have pulled themselves out of the online service hole I like to refer to as XBLA (nod to Topher and Chad of RetroforceGo! fame). They were going down a dark path of one or two shitty games a week from which there may have been no return. But now there is a light at the end...

You can follow the links to read up on some good times, or you could just cut out that man that stands in the middle for some reason and go ahead and e-mail vcpoll@futureus.com and get your VC on.

Super Metroid Redesign GoGo
Chos | 4:10 PM on 03.27.2008 5 comments

After reading Haxan's excellent blog on Project AM2R (a remake of Metroid II), I decided to blog about a most excellent redesign of Super Metroid done by Drewseph, Kejardon, MathOnNapkins, Jathys, and others called........Super Metroid Redesign.

I'm not sure how to say it, but this game is freakin awesome! Everything of the Super Metroid you know and love is here, just tweaked a little. The story and atmosphere have stayed the same (basically), but the physics engine is different, and there are brand new items and abilities to collect and power up. Zebes itself is larger than the original as well and completely redone with even more puzzles and enemies. I won't spoil much here because you should play it for yourself. One thing to note, don't get discouraged playing through the first few times. Samus is super weak in the beginning, but she powers up quickly.

For help finding and running the game, head to http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/131/.

And of course, we can't forget the money shots:

 about me

I'm a nice guy, just weird. You get used to it after a few doses.
A quick note, if you don't listen to RetroforceGo!, the best podcast ever (yard sale), then why are you here? Not here, reading my profile-thingy, here on this Earth. Go kill yourself Hippie.
Anyways...
I'm a lover of retro games, and most often I find myself trapped in my past, replaying old classics like it's nobody's business. I can't count the number of times I've beaten my SNES collection over and over again. And don't even ask me about Star Ocean: The Second Story or Lufia II. I've spent over 400 hours on each of them (stupid Ancient Cave). I love people and friends, so if you want to talk or w/e then add me to your friends!

On another random note, I try to update blogs I have with any free web stuff I find to educate all possible.
Random freebies:

IWBTG - I Wanna Be The Guy - http://kayin.pyoko.org/iwbtg/
I advertise this game every chance I get. If you've ever played a platformer, then you need to play this. The best advice for this game? If it looks safe, it's not. Also, don't have anything breakable within your immediate reach because it will be destroyed by your rage within 5 minutes of playing.
Hulu - http://www.hulu.com/
Its got full episodes of a lot of popular tv shows that you watch right in your browser. A friend told me that it's run by NBC but who cares lol.
Pandora - http://www.pandora.com/
A music site where you type in a band/song and it creates a radio station for you with similar types of music. It proves useful if you're tired of listening to the same music over and over again and want to discover some new bands. A nice touch is that it saves the "stations" that you create. If you don't like the site, use OinkPlus, another program that does basically the same thing but plugs into your music player instead of staying in your browser.
GameGum - http://www.gamegum.com/
A billion free flash games. You'll never be bored at work again.
Freeware Database - http://freeware.remakes.org/
Another billion free games, most of these are user created and pretty awesome. It's sort of like the poor man's indie homeland.
South Park Studios - www.southparkstudios.com
Full, free, (mostly) uncensored episodes of South Park. It's updated regularly with new content.
