So, I got a lot of feedback within minutes of starting this blog. Guess I severely underestimated how active people are around here. That's a pleasant surprise though since things over at WordPress are pretty slow.
Anyway, I was urged to do a proper introduction, and I want to assure everyone I don't plan on spamming my blog here. I was just trying to test things out, see what the blog looked like. I definitely plan on participating with the monthly topics. So, here's a little bit about me:
I can't remember a time without video games. Oddly enough, it wasn't until last November that I realized I want to become a professional video game journalist.
Yep, I changed my major, started a blog, and stopped feeling bad about "wasting" my time playing games all day. I want the dream job: getting paid to play games and making my opinion known. I have bigger plans than just being another critic/reporter, but I'm a bit paranoid about sharing my plans over the internet.
Basically, I have an idea for a website that will offer a new type of review that will go above and beyond anything we've seen so far. It'll bypass the drama and controversy associated with review sites; it'll avoid the nasty flame wars that burn when fans don't get the review they want; it'll turn people on to games they've never played before and wish they would have years ago.
I've only shared this idea with a few trusted people over the net and some of my friends. Everyone has been real supportive, and I'm really motivated, but my primary goal at the moment is to focus on school. In the meantime, I try to update my blog with my observations to both gain experience and collect my writing in a single location that I can use as a portfolio of sorts.
Going back to my life being filled with memories of games, I'd have to say that EarthBound has been a huge inspiration is multiple aspects of my life. I'm a general staffer over at Starmen.Net (known as Ninten1 in those parts). The MOTHER/EarthBound fanbase is one of the most active and creative groups of people around. I think spending so much time around so many people influenced by such a unique game has really molded me into the video game fan I am today: a guy with a unique perspective on the world's most exciting medium.
I'm sure you'll see my love for all things EarthBound throughout my blog posts. That's not to say I don't like covering a wide variety of games. Just give me some time, and you'll find I touch all the bases.
Until then, I hope to get a feel for the community here. Oh, and thanks for the quick responses to my first post. I'm glad you guys are so active. :)
