Approximately 5:30PM it happened.Talk about an amazing sight. A meteorite blitzed across Edmonton skies earlier this evening and it was only minutes before status updates regarding the fireball began popping up all over my friends' facebook profiles. Soon after, media outlets reported the incident and videos began to crop up online. Check out some footage I unearthed:
I can't recall ever seeing something so bright before in my life. Momentarily it crossed my mind that we might be under attack, or armageddon had been unleashed upon us. It turns out nothing quite so epic was underway, but there's been quite a stir about it anyways. Here, check out another video:
Pretty, huh? Whether or not the meteorite actually struck land is still unsure, but there are rumours circulating that it crashed in a field just off Highway 55.
Jim Rudolph, spokesman for Edmonton International Airport, said that "according to NavCanada, it appears that this was the result of a meteorite, but that has not been confirmed."
That's great, Jim, but has anyone seen Buzz Buzz? What about the Chosen Four? It is of utmost importance that they are identified. The War on Giygas has begun!
Oh man, hahaha. I would have been pissing my self if I saw that!! I would have been thinking that it was either a missle or that I needed to head home and grab my cracked bat...
I have no clue, Jackal, but it's fucked up and annoying and I'd love to know how to remedy the situation. At first I thought it was Safari's doing and switched over to Firefox but that achieved nothing. It's a real pisser because I can't update away from home without this nonsense occurring. Strangely enough, it only affects Destructoid. My text on other sites like Facebook, for instance, is perfectly normal.
Wait dude . . . you're from Edmonton? You mean we have another DToid'er from Alberta? *gasp* =O Granted, you come from the crappy north side of this awesome province . . . =P
That's incredible!! I read about it online but didn't realize it was that big. I wish I could experience something that unearthly. Although I'm 70% sure I did see a UFO back in the summer :S
that was awesome. i checked some of the other vids, and there was the one of a truck going wrong way on highway and falling off a bridge in Edmonton. that was crazy.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
PEEEEEEEE KAAAAAAAAAY THUNNNDEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Beware of the blob though.
All we get down here in the Philadelphia region is some weird Aurora Borealis lights.

Oh, and a UFO over Bucks County, which is apparently becoming a frequent visiting spot for our alien friends.
