How the heck did I miss this? Fire Emblem is one of my favorite series of all time and I have been salivating in anticipation for any word on another portable edition. As much as I love the GameCube and Wii games, Fire Emblem feels the best on a handheld. I must have been reading to an orphanage of blind children or something, because seven months ago (yeah, seven months!) a DS version of the series was announced entitled Fire Emblem: New Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light. I had no idea this game existed until this morning when a tip came in saying it would be released in Japan this August. Are you kidding me? I am so excited! There is no confirmation whether the game will come to America, but, if you are reading this Nintendo ... please ... for the love of the Lord, please bring this game here. I would be so happy and promise to never give a Virtual Console game a bad review again. Please ... Did you all know about this game? Have I been living under a rock for the past half a year? What the heck? Did I mention I am ridiculously excited?

I think it's a new one, but the guy in that image does look a little like Eliwood. Huh.
Thanks for the update, I'm really excited about this.
Ah, that is Marth. Interesting ...
SO EXCITED! :)
Me, you, a couple of beers. I will convince you that Mario Party 2 is far superior. :)
If you like Advance Wars you will love Fire Emblem. It's like Advance Wars with dragons and wizards and stuff. Basically, it's effin' amazing. :)
you not hearing about it surprises me. I'm also a FE fan, albeit one who never finishes them for some reason-cept PoR
Also I LOVE Mario Party 2. Soooooooo many good memmories.
And I disagree on the Advance Wars/FE comparison, both games could not be more different.
I'm not sure if I like the battle sprites. The overhead ones look fine, but the actual fights one not so much. I hope they look better in action because I remember a lot of GBA games with pseudo-3D ones that look absolutely horrible.
Yeah, I think I agree with ZeroTolo: I like the regular 2D sprites better ... but I have to see this game in action to make a final call. It could look nice. :)
PLAY RONDO OF SWORDS UNTIL THEN.
Really? I agree that they are obviously different games, but I think Fire Emblem and Advance Wars have a lot in common. Grid-based strategy, rock-paper-scissors gameplay, light mages. Oh, wait ... :)
I'll import it if it comes down to it. Screw the Story, just let me kill things.
Of course the games are similar, coming from the same developer. For mainly the reasons you stated, the combat mechanics following largely the same ruleset. The difference is in the strategic approach. Unit preservation is rule #1 in FE, since you lose your characters forever if they die. Where in AW, sacrifices can be made to achieve a greater goal.
And they're both totally awesome, Intelligent Systems is one of the few respectable development teams Nintendo has left.
