I think the problem isn't so much that the dolphins look unhappy, because they kind of don't.

I didn't think they were being mean at all. The dolphins were just transfixed (and, in one case, greatly amused) by the moving objects. The people were, likewise, transfixed by the dolphins.

The only difference is that the dolphins looked cute and the people looked retarded.
