About
Hello, all!

My name's Jon, and I've been playing video games since I was old enough to pick up the joystick to my grandma's Atari (does drooling on it count...? XP).

This bio's a work in progress, and I'll hopefully care about adding more later. There'll probably be lots of information on my gaming background (for obvious reasons), as well as some other semi-interesting useless-facts :D

"Sonic The Hedgehog" is -still- one of my all-time favorites. My parents didn't buy me everything (children these days are spoiled @_@), so I'd usually end up playing the same game for long periods of time. So much time went into it that I don't even think about it anymore, I'm running on auto pilot. Ever jump, ever stop, every spin-dash = reflex :P
The awesome thing is that I still have my original copy, and I still play it on the Genesis it came with.

Now, I'm not constantly playing Sonic 1. There -are- other games, you know. Like Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast, etc. I kid, I kid. Honestly, I haven't played a Sonic game in over a year XD I do like the little guy, though, and can usually pull some enjoyment out of even the most-critically-panned title.

Apart from Sonic games, I love the Silent Hill series, and most everything Square-Enix puts out. And this is where I'm stopping...more to come.

I can't take it anymore.

Everywhere I look, anyone who has had anything positive to say in regards to Final Fantasy XIII is quick to tell you "Oh, don't worry, the game opens up/adds more variety around the 30 hour mark :D" Um...what? I haven't even played the game, but that argument alone has made this a budget-purchase for me.

Seriously, do you have any idea what that statement boils down to? You're telling someone that the game will become fun for them after torturing themselves needlessly for 30 hours.

If someone is tired of a game a few hours into it, what makes you think they'd want to continue that for another 20+ hours? Have we suddently been warped into some Twilight Zone-esque alternate reality where games have to be boring before revealing to us the good stuff? Have good games been so few and far between that we've allowed ourselves to except this kind of mediocrity?

Let's use simple logic here: THIS IS A GAME. Games are meant to be a form of entertainment. Once the entertainment stops, we enter work territory. That's right, Final Fantasy XIII becomes a chore to those who are bored by it. The same goes for any title that just doesn't grab the individual.

This is why "it get's better 30 hours in" is quite possibly the most pathetic defense for a game I've ever heard. Games are meant to be -fun- to the person playing it. Fun is a relative term; it's an opinion, not a fact. What's fun for you might not be fun for someone else. They're not missing out on an experience when that experience isn't there for them, so stop feeling bad for/hating them for it. MojoJojo, etc etc.

Also, lmao at people who argue over stuff like a game being good or bad. They'll never change the other's experience-based opinion. Both parties will be wasting their breath going head-to-head when they could be doing something...oh, I don't know...fun? Unless, of course, they enjoy pointlessly arguing. If that's the case, carry on!

white knight chronicles has devoured 333 hours of my time. the most time i've given to a game this generation. based on that alone, jrpgoty.

second is warhawk, with 150 hours.
I haven't really had a chance to discover this gen's jrpgs, save for Blue Dragon. It was ok, good old school. Ending up in a battle every two steps was excruciating towards the end, though XD. I've been really interestd in WK:C, I hope I get a chance to check it out soon. I've been a little short on cash lately :p
'What's fun for you might not be fun for someone else.'

You just proved your point and disproved it in the same sentence. A lot of people like linear games, being linear isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just another way to tell a story. I, personally, like the linear aspect in certain applications. Too many times in an RPG the world opens up and tells me absolutely nothing of my objective. So I wander around and hope that I find the correct NPC in the correct town at the correct time.
I treat these sorts of "this is great vs. this is shit" arguments like watching the guy who does balloon art at the state fair get arrested for dealing meth.

With much joy and amusement.
@RenagadePanda

How did I disprove my point? I only sad that to reinforce the "fun is an opinion" statement Xp
Qraze has good taste! yeah, Warhawk was great... and White Knight Chronicles is going to be a longer term game for me... so finishing off some other games before going back to it.

Everyone has different tastes... personally I also loved Sacred 2 and got many, many great hours of gameplay from that game!
Honestly, I'm playing the game and I haven't gotten to the part where it's supposed to open up. Does that bother me? Nope. I've never thought "Just a few more chapters and the real fun begins". I stopped reading about the game some time ago because most of the people were whining about the same things. Just decided to form my own opinion when I got my hands on it. So far, so good.
It's 15 hours, not 30.

And opinions are opinions. FFXIII is one of hundreds of recent RPGs (Western or Japanese). I would go so far as to say that it's good it's linear, because it's one of the ONLY JRPGs ever made, since the days of the NES, that casual gamers could even hope to possibly enjoy.
