I've dabbled a bit here and there with Anime ever since college. A lot of my friends were
huge huge fans of series with Ninjas, big boobs, catchy err...catch phrases, and tentacles. I
wasn't really a fan of the stuff as I thought most of them were stupid. I didn't really like FLCL
or Evangelion (**awaits the haters**). So yeah, I did like Trigun, Afro Samurai (does that
count?), Hajime no Ippo, and Naruto. But I got sick of Naruto and the staring into the enemy's
eyes and talking and the backstory episodes, oh my GOODNESS the back story episodes
never ended! Recently, I got back into an anime that I hadn't watched in some time and I've
been hooked. What is it you ask? None other than the adventures of the Strawhat Pirates
and their quest for the One Piece.
I can already feel the sting from the flames that may come from posting this, but whatever.
For those of you that may not know, One Piece is about a kid named Luffy that goes out on a
quest to become the Pirate King and along the way befriends some people and kicks some
peoples' arses. What I like about the show is that it's friggin hilarious. All the characters have
their own little quirks about them and sometimes unexpected things happen. I'm not
particularly interested or fond of pirates, but this show tickles me pink!
you may want to go into Japanator
i liek animes, myself
LOL
One Piece bastardized by 4Kids and Funimation? ...
I keep trying to get into new ones and finding them but I don't find a lot of the perverted comedies that funny, still giving them a try though!
hell...I try my best to stray away from shonen Jump anime outside of bleach...which is also having it's ups and downs on both anime and manga.
if anything, most of the decent and/or good anime are your 25 episode series/seasons or less.
My kid loves that damn sinic x show they did and it irritates the shit out of me.
Try "Cowboy Bebop"...I've seen tons of anime over the last 15 years that most folks will never see (because much of it doesn't get licensed) and that one is still the best IMO.
If you want a real anime obsession...start collecting cels from the older shows, or sketches from the newer ones.
and yes, I'm talking about the Japanese voices with subs, english translations of most animes are sh!t. Thanks for the suggestions as well, I have seen Cowboy Bebop, I didn't really like it to be honest, I did like Samurai Champloo though. I do agree that when most shows get up there in the episodes, storylines repeat and start to just fall into a crappy pattern.
What, specifically, did you not like about Cowboy Bebop? I'm just curious, because nearly everyone who has seen it has found something to like about it. I still think it's the most well-rounded anime of all time, along with Fullmetal Alchemist, where it can be funny, poignant, intense, thought-provoking, and so much more.
FLCL might be better appreciated after you have more anime under your belt, because there are a lot of references to other shows and weird Japanese cultural things.
