Unfortunately I was not able to post a daily recaps last night, due to the website being down as the server transfer took place. It's a good thing though, because I just happened to be a little bit intoxicated last night. Thanks to both of these reasons, I have wrapped the entire weekend's recap until this one gigantic "to rule them all" recap.

Before we get to the recap let me just talk a little bit about the new game I picked up and played this weekend, MadWorld. I bought this game at GameStop earlier this week, thanks to it's new and improved $19.99 price point. After playing through and beating the game in under two days, I have to say I was pretty disappointed. After reading such good reviews, I had my hopes up for what I was expecting to be a great beat'em up. Instead what I got was a short "death simulator", with spotty controls, a difficulty curve that varied all over the place, and bosses that were way to easy to defeat.

Now don't get me wrong, MadWorld did have some great things going for it. Its presentation was top notch, with a look and style that can simply not be found in any other game on the market right now. It also had a pretty cool soundtrack, with some of the funniest background announcers ever heard in a game. Finally, it came up with some very inventive ways to kill people. Past that though the game was just kind of mediocre.

It's a good thing MadWorld only cost me $20, because I would have been pretty angry if I had paid $50 for this. What confuses me the most is that the developers took a simple game idea and tried to add in some confusing convoluted story that just didn't need to be there. When the goal is to kill people in the most horrific ways possible, you do not need a story, especially not one has horrible as the one they came up with. I know a lot of other people enjoyed this game, and that's great, but I am not one of those people. My recommendation is to rent this game to see the awesome art style and all the "fun" and inventive ways you can kill someone, but don't expect much more from it.

Ok let's get to the weekend recaps ....

MadWorld really did look fantastic, but it needed more than "find creative way to kill baddie, do that to various baddies, fight a boss, repeat." Then again, it had Greg Proops and John DiMaggio as the announcers, which was a plus. And even Steve Blum as the main character, who didn't say a lot from what I recall...but he was still there, and I dig the guy's voice.

Recaps make the world go 'round.

Thanks for the recaps! God, after a week + of vacation, I have so much to catch up on.

Also, love the new contest summaries in the sidebar.

And, yeah, your thoughts on MadWorld pretty much mirror mine. Just wasn't hugely into it.

For the amount of playtiem they actually wanted to fill in, MadWorld was excellent. But I'd have to agree that its a pretty hard sell at $50 for rough 4 hours of single player campaign.

I wish there was a better way to price shortform retail disc games and not seem like you're conceding to bargain bin quality...
