Happy Father's Day to all of the Dtoid dads out there. I hope you all had a nice relaxing day, hopefully filled with some personal time to catch up on those video games you haven't had much time to play lately. Check out Yojimbo's blog for a nice Father's Day tribute.
Calling all Gears of War 2 junkies. I am currently on the lookout for some fellow Dtoiders to play Gears of War 2 with. After owning the game since the day it came out, I have finally gotten around to playing it, and I'm absolutely loving it. The only problem is, I really want to play through the story campaign on co-op, but I don't know anyone who owns the game. I'm looking for someone who would be interested in playing through the game with me, and who won't ruin the experience by skipping cut scenes, or telling me what's going to happen next. Besides that, I'm also looking for some people who would be interested in doing some multiplayer deathmatch, and maybe some Horde mode. If anyone is interested please let me know below.
In other news, I recently played and beat Beyond Good and Evil for the first time. I was 6 years late to the party, but it was worth the wait. I extremely enjoyed my time with the game, and when it was all over it left me wanting even more. It made me realize how 80% of the games that come out these days have lifeless, emotionless characters who have no more depth then a rock. How are you supposed to have any emotional attachment to these types of characters? Beyond Good and Evil had characters with lots of depth and emotion, who I actually cared about and felt for. Why is it so hard for other developers to get this kind of important stuff right? If I am forced to care about one more lifeless marine who's out to save the world with his assault rifle, I'm going to go crazy.
I dunno why it's so hard for developers to do stuff like that, but in a way, it's a good thing. When you see games like BG&E, or in my personal case, either of the Team Ico games, it makes them feel a lot more unique from the rest of the crowd. The idea of having a thousand games be like BG&E may sound like a good idea, but to me, if more developers did that, I think games like that wouldn't have the same impact that they do now. They probably decided it was best to leave a good thing alone.
Well, either that or developers didn't have that creative spark to make a deep story so they just focus on making the game look more shiny. Me? I'm going with both.
