Hello, everyone! The holiday Steam sale has begun, and I've already gotten a few games. I bought La-Mulana for dirt cheap, and received Monaco as a gift. Luckily, both games run on my crappy laptop (although Monaco is a bit sluggish). I played both games for a bit today, and then I noticed that I'd sunk a full hour into La-Mulana without realizing it. I can already tell that game's gonna be fantastic!
I also got Killer is Dead recently, thanks to birthday money, and I've been playing through that as well. It's really great so far, although the gigolo missions are really jarring and lame. I'll probably skip out on those. The boss battles so far have been really awesome! I particularly enjoyed the creepy fight against Alice and the fight against the Yakuza dude that took place on a sand garden. I also love the character design for David, although I kinda wish they never made any mention of it in the dialogue (like they never do for ridiculously scantily clad female characters).
Since I loved Killer7 and No More Heroes, this is exactly the kind of game I've been hoping to see from Suda51; epic boss battles, bizarre characters, beautiful levels, and great music! And I do see what they were attempting to do with the gigolo missions, playing up the flirtatious side of Mondo Zappa, but I really think they could have gone about it in a different way. Oh well... Suda51 games are never perfect (but they're still pretty darn good!).
