Guacamelee came out this week! I've been super excited about this game ever since I got to play it for a bit at PAX. It's pretty awesome!
The game's Mexican flavor is a very refreshing change of pace from the usual fantasy or war settings you usually see in video games. It's a shame that games don't try out unusual settings like this very often. The setting and the beautiful cartoon art style were the main things that drew me to the game in the first place, and the platforming/fighting mechanics worked well enough to keep me entertained throughout the game. I'm looking forward to playing some more co-op soon, which is what I did at PAX. The co-op was a lot of fun, it felt awesome throwing enemies to your partner so they could catch them in midair and suplex them!
The only bad thing I could say about the game is that there are, unfortunately, a few annoying bugs. Sometimes things won't load properly, and I'll be forced to restart the game when it won't let me proceed. It's usually not a huge deal, though, since the game autosaves. It only sets me back a few screens at most, but it's still pretty irritating. It's happened to me about four times so far, which seems often enough that they would have noticed it during playtesting... but, oh well. Maybe it'll be patched in the future.
