So Bit.Trip Runner 2 came out this week! I've been so excited about this game ever since it was announced, and playing it for a bit at PAX got me even more excited. Now it's finally out, but I'm gonna have to wait a few more days to get it, since I was planning on getting the PS3 version. There are some differences for the PS3 version, but I'm not really sure what a lack of depth of field and shadow filtering even mean, so I probably won't miss them, and I probably wouldn't care about micro-leaderboards anyway. There's still going to be regular old leaderboards, I'm sure. I saw some people on Twitter poking fun at people for settling for "inferior" versions of the game, but really? These minor differences don't matter much in the long run. I'm just glad I get to play the game on my console of choice! And I'm sure it will be a beautiful game no matter what version you end up with.

While I wait for the PS3 version of Runner 2 to drop though, I've got Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne to keep me busy. I just picked it up a few days ago and I'm only a few hours in, but I'm already loving it.

This is the first non-Persona SMT game I've tried playing, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but it seems like it's going to focus more on battling and dungeon crawling than the story-heavy focus of the Persona games. And from what I've played so far, I think I'm OK with that! One thing that I loved about the Persona games was all the different demons you could collect as personas, because their designs were all really awesome! You don't get to see them in action much outside of battle though, so I never felt that I was truly able to appreciate their intriguing designs. Nocturne focuses much more heavily on those same demons, and so I'm finally able to interact with them and see them in action up-close. I love coming across demons on the streets of ruined Tokyo and thinking, "Whoa, hey, that's Shiisaa! I know that demon!" and then running up and chatting with them.

One of the first demons I recruited into my party (via fusion) was Jack Frost, one of my favorites from the SMT series, so that made me pretty happy. The ability to recruit all the different kinds of demons has sort of rekindled the "Gotta catch 'em all!" mentality of Pokemon games, which I also experienced recently with Ni no Kuni (although I eventually stopped trying to catch them all). I wonder how many demons I'll end up recruiting in Nocturne?

Also, I really want an art book of all these demons! I found a few Japanese art books which gather the works of Kazuma Kaneko (the series' illustrator), but they're way too expensive. It's too bad the Persona series hasn't inspired an English version of that kind of art book yet.
