It's that time of the year again. Specifically the end of it and all that it encompasses. In this case being the presentation of everyone's Game of the Year picks. I always think these lists are more redundant than your typical "list" blogs/posts because they're always wrong. Every GOTY winner will always be wrong because they weren't presented by you. Or me. Or Joe Blow from Kokomo. Example: Destructoid's GOTY winner was Uncharted 2. That's a nice safe choice. Personally I think Demon's Souls should of gotten it. It would of been cool to see the 'Toid flex those big robotic balls they have, buck the trend and done just that but alas that didn't happen. Hell, they didn't even review the game. But that's neither here nor there. What is, is this. This year was a phenomenal year for games.

Retro-centric gamers like to proclaim that the Golden Age of games have long passed us and what we have now are games built on the flash and pan of stellar graphics and gameplay second. I think its high time we all as gamers nipped that in the bud right now. The Golden Age of games is now folks. Look how many many wonderful games came out this year. So much so that the nominees list of GOTY could conceivably go on forever should we choose to really include every worthwhile notable game. Let's just do a quick rundown for shits and giggles, shall we?

Killzone 2. Halo ODST. Batman:Arkham Asylum. Forza 3. Uncharted 2. Dragon's Age. Shin Megami Tensei's Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon. InFamous. Prototype. Modern Warfare 2. Borderlands. Shadow Complex. Shatter. Left for Dead 2. Demon's Souls. Street Fighter IV. BlazBlue and I could add shit ton more because it seems the people making games these days are getting "it". They're getting that the majority of the people shelling out money for these games want great games. Not shit. The days of "OOooh that game looks great, I'm buying it just for that" are gone. If one thing we can thank these technological leaps in graphics for is that now we are pretty much used to it. Now we want everything to go along with that and we're generally getting it. And its only getting better and better for us. Games for the most part are better. Sure we can complain about this or that not being "perfect" or it could get better. Hell I can complain about having a threesome with supermodels If I chose to because technically it could be better...somehow.

But look at the big picture and you'll soon see how great 2009 was for us gamers. And from the looks of it, 2010 is looking to eclipse that. I just have two words to say as a lover of games...
