Arbitrarily, capriciously, and for no reason. That is how I choose the theme for the recaps. Tonight, dementites and dementoids, we will be paying tribute to one of the formative influences of my early adulthood; the Dr. Demento Show. If he were only responsible for bringing Weird Al to the masses, that would have been enough, but by my calculation, Dr. D's been playing funny songs on the radio for 40 years now! If you are fortunate enough to live in an area where the good doctor is still broadcast, I would urge you to support the show in whatever capacity you can. If not, I was pleased to find that episodes are available in MP3 format on the official website, and many of the classic songs are readily available on YouTube. I'll play a few of my favorites here, hopefully you'll enjoy them too.

*-Om Nom on Souls takes a moment to reflect on the many, many digital lives he has cut short. If real life is anything like Tron or ReBoot, we're all going to hell.
*- It's a bit early for Father's Day, but Handy made an excellent list of the worst legal guardians in gaming.
*-CrimeMinister wrote about something I hadn't considered before... if the gender were changed on the few female game characters we hold up as examples, what would the result be? Some great discussion on this one.
*-Trunxham shared videos of some of the glitches Red Dead Redemption shipped with. I, for one, welcome our donkey-lady, coyote-man overlords.

A-After playing Bit trip Runner, Bobyoko thought Gaijin games might have gotten some inspiration from a smurfprising source. Huh. Firefox doesn't like that word. Smurf it.
A-Fame Designer went a little existential himself trying to tell with words a story that must be experienced...
A-HoodedMiracle says that the reward model that games seem to be based on lately has taken its toll on his enjoyment of the medium.
A-Garethxxgod goes over the good and the bad of the Grand Theft Auto series... gameplay-wise that is, there's no discussion of "hot coffee" to be found.
M-Part one of SteezyXL's Musing tells the story of how he became a gamer in the first place.
P-Podsumaki episode 5 recorded tonight.

F-The PS3 Fight club is in full swing! Nilcam gives us an update.
C-Medillgamergirl202 is an outsider looking at Destructoid the way Jane Goodall looks at chimps. She could use a hand with some journalism-type questions if you're willing.
C-RBinator ponders the end result of John Gabriel's Greater Internet Dickwad theory.
I-Please welcome Raien Swiftwood to the show. He enjoys plastic instruments and decoder rings.
I-Greetings are also in order for Bakewell, who has a soft spot in his heart for Matt Hazard.

R-WanderingPixel's review of Red Dead Redemption went up simultaneously with Destructoid's official review. Or close enough.
R-Agent 47 also reviewed Red Dead and warns of ending spoilers in the blog's title.
T-Some thoughts on Final Fantasy XIII courtesy of ruicraveirinha.
T-Munkeex is enjoying Red Dead.
D-It hit the front page already and I can't think of a thing to say about this blog, the game or the movie it's based on. Well done, I-mockery, but I'm just gonna move on now.
$-Sort of a news post, sort of a deal: No More Heroes 2 has had its price slashed. Almost like it was done with some sort of energy weapon.

M-Kaggen's creation may not be strictly 8-bit, but it's got a nice beat. Definitely worth a listen.
M-Novakaine, inspired by Red Dead Redemption, shared this mashup with the rest of the class.

L-Crunshii shared this video of a great glitch in Red Dead Redemption. I tried to install spinnaz on my horse, but it kicked me in the head. The doctor thought I might have brain damage. I like stories.
C-When I can boil down your entire blog to three words (Borderlands is great) your blog might need a little more meat. Tell a story of an experience you had that made you like the game, let us know what made compelled you to play through it multiple times. It's wonderful to like something, but back it up with substance.
C-It's great that you're improving yourself, but this isn't really a lifestyle blog. Now, if you had played the old NES game Kung Fu, this would be an appropriate place to let the world know about it.
C-This is really hard to follow. I don't know what you're asking people to support.
?-Not sure where to put this-- mjemirzian has been writing a strategy guide for the strategy RPG called Elven Legacy, and invites comments from anyone who's played it.

No fail, but a lot of Could Be Better. Maybe I should start grading on a curve.

Memetoid? Well, sort of.
M-A fairly epic collection of Mr. Randy Dixon's favorite things, tastefully arranged in list format.
M-RenegadePanda followed suit a short time later.

Briefly (very briefly) considered failing a quintet of blogs and referring to them as the "funny five." Decided against it.

That reminds me... anyone know how to post a youtube video so that only the progress bar is showing? (as seen here.) I'm not sure if it's possible in Elephant, but it's a feature I've wanted to use a couple of times.

@Steely: That's because it recaps everyone from that day.

Sorry for making it less special for you now.

Lol I know Stevil.. It just feels good to know that people are actually reading something I wrote. And it's also exciting to see if something I've written has been Topsauced or failtoided(?).

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
