I had an interesting revelation last weekend when I took my PS3 over to a friend's house about LittleBigPlanet's DLC. As you may recall I picked up a copy during that crazy GoGamer sale, but I didn't realize at the time that they were the PAL version. This isn't a problem for the most part since the game is region free and runs perfectly fine on my system. What I learned the hard way however, is that for some reason which is beyond my comprehension, all DLC for the game is region locked. In my PAL copy I can't run around with a turkey on my head (downloaded during the Thanksgiving holiday), can't wear an astronaut suit or a Lunar new year outfit, despite having the costumes on my hard drive. Presumably, this means that the paid DLC such as the Metal Gear pack is also incompatible with a game which is not from your own country. I hadn't seen this information anywhere else, so I hope it's helpful to someone out there.
I had a bit of a backslide yesterday, and in a moment of weakness accepted a friend's offer to reinstate my World of Warcraft account. I hadn't played since late Burning Crusade, and a lot of things have changed... mostly for the better, but some changes are just bizarre to me. My main character was a paladin, and their combat mechanics got a complete overhaul since the last time I had played. Have any of you come back to a multiplayer game after a long absence to find things completely different? If so, let me hear about it in the comments.
In honor of tonight's contest, I'm gonna attempt to recap everyone's blogs with just five words. This isn't easy for me, if you're a regular to this page you know I'm a loquacious bastard. Let's give it a shot though...
Hahaha! Good job Qalamari! d('-'d) I also apologize for making you jealous . . . -_-' I've now graced Culturoid, Wordtoid, and Communitoid with my series, lol.
Interesting seeing the work you recappers put into doing this gig, but this personal challenge thing helped put a nice spin on this thing.
Speaking of multiplayer games, I remember playing Counter Strike back when it first came out in 2000 or so. At that time, my family didn't have a decent internet connection at the time but we had several computers, so I played with my older brother for the time being until we got a better internet connection at some point in 2002. The online was a different experience for me, meeting new players was always pretty exciting.
When I heard news for Left 4 Dead, I remembered the other games Valve made and found an old copy of Counter Strike. Remember what the game was like, I decided I should give it one more try. And it was just like relearning everything again.
I had to get used to the small maps that were available for the game. I also completely forgot about the "freeze time" which was the time in the beginning of the game where you could buy different weapons and equipment. But with so many things to buy, trying to get the best combination was difficult and the very few people you met online tended to be hackers.
Bleh, it was one of the games I remember playing at one point that hasn't aged well at all.
I've gone back to SWG before, usually after a few years of pouting about whatever latest game ruining mechanics they implemented. Even while it can be fun starting over I always end up remembering how much fun it used to be and eventually that ruins whatever new experience I'm trying to have there. Kinda hard not to dwell on memories of the good times when there is literally nobody else around and a big chunk of the fun came from my guild buddies. Ah nostalgia, how you kill me.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
The problem is... can't stop.
