Hello, Destructoid. I trust you've had a pleasant weekend? I certainly did. Friday night I got to play some Uncharted 2
Co-op with Samit and AnonymousNoob, and yesterday my friends and I pretty much spent the whole day playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii
, swearing (Oh, you'd better believe we were swearing) and making dirty jokes. It may not sell as many copies as Modern Warfare 2
, but it's a fantastic title and one that belongs in any Wii owner's library. The game really shines if you have three people with even a rudimentary understanding of video games nearby. Something we've almost lost in this age of internet-enabled consoles and online multiplayer is the fun factor involved in having your friends within arm's reach. There's something about having your buddies playing in the same room with you that just can't be duplicated with an online connection and a wireless headset. Nintendo understands that. Don't get me wrong... I love online multiplayer too, it certainly has its place. It'd be nice if developers could implement both on and offline multiplayer in all of their games, but unfortunately the cost is often prohibitive. I just wish Nintendo and Microsoft would learn from each others' successes, so we could play Smash Brothers Brawl
on a stable network, and play Ghostbusters
or Left 4 Dead
with 4 of us all on the same screen. Wishful thinking perhaps, but a man can dream.
Hey, you're not here for my nonsensical ramblings. You're here for the recaps! Let's get to `em.
*-Garry's Mod+Mother 3=wackiness.
*-Handy wrote this piece about some times in his life when he questioned the value of gaming.
*-Dr. Light ate your Magicite's Musing takes a look at the evils of grinding.
A-Monodi wrote a great piece encouraging game developers to stop treating females like another species.
A-LegendPenguin wrote an article on game censorship for his English class-- part the first is available for your perusal and edification.
A-Aaaaand here's part two.
A-Is online multiplayer a cancer? Trueb7ue makes a pretty convincing case that it is.
A-have you ever really thought about what you make your in-game avatars eat? Pendleton21 did, and I think I need to go brush my teeth now.
A-Stevil wrote about an overlooked RPG from the PSone's library, Koudelka.
S-Every Monday night, you should tell Nihontiger90 What'd you get? If you don't, who will?
P-Manasteel88 posted RetroforceGO! episode 92 in video format.
RFGO crew, we miss you.
P-Drunkcast has posted episode #15.
P-Refused Classification recorded a challenging podcast wherein profanity was punished with...more alcohol. I bet someone played to lose.
P-Failcast episode 53 is... up. That's a pun based on the header image.
Hurp durp indeed.
It really is very good.
I-Welcome to Destructoid, DinosaurPizza!
I-Greetings also to Niz...
I-Who may not yet understand the intricacies of double posting.
N-Nihontiger90 beat the front page with this news that the voice of Mario wanted to provide the Hylian Hero's voice as well.
N-Boomsling reported that (surprise, surprise) Modern Warfare 2 has already been cracked wide open, with code to set up dedicated servers readily available. Please note the total lack of surprise visible on the faces of everyone, everywhere.
N-Victor Stillwater brought some great news! Atlus will be localizing [i]3D Dot Game Heroes for a May release.
T-2009's major releases aren't quite over, but Electrium's already thinking ahead to 2010.
T-Not to be outdone, Xzyliac added another boxcar to the hype train.
T-Catbox played through the DS game Super Princess Peach and came away with a unique perspective.
R-THe RPGist offered up this review of Dragon Age: Origins. And some underboob.
M- Shin Oni is your guest DJ for the week on dTunes.
F-Analoge's Mindf*ck Monday this week features the esoteric Waking Life.
C-I understand the desire to be the first with a story, but even rudimentary research shows that this has no basis in fact. In other words, you fail at JOURNALISM.
F-Online petitions are less useful than jerking off. At least with the latter when you're done you have something to show for your effort. A post-release petition to the makers of what has already become the best selling game of the year is even more doomed than most... Activision has literally no reason to do what you want, because they already have your money.
F-What in the purple cardboard hell are you talking about? "Guy in the middle?" Context, do you know what that is?
