If I remember correctly, I read that Half-Life was actually inspired by the Mist, so there's your connection.

I don't know why people are telling him it came out first. He never said it WAS in between the games, just that it had similar events to what could have happened.
That's the same thought chain I had a month ago when a friend and I rented that movie. I had an eerie Xen feeling of the creatures early on.
