Damn fine read. How'd you feel about 3d land? I saw that get a ton of hate as well, personally I love it.
NSB is just to bland to me, look at mario world and yoshi's island, look at mario 1 and 3, the games just look so different in terms of style, NSB does not, they also made the music worse in NSB2.
Its astoundingly mediocre, the coin gimmick isn't that interesting either and the end reward is terrible.

I loved 3d land. my favorite 3ds game so far, it was like crack to me. But I never knew people hated it. Why must I love things that people hate!?

Ahahaha. Just got on my pc (fuck you phone) and I love your header. Yeah 3D Land was great. It did something no other 3d mario has: made me like a 3d Mario game. I have nothing against any of the other ones, but I like my Mario 2D thank you very much (Zelda and Metroid too). I have nothing against any of the 3D games, just not for me. But yeah, I'm with you on the loving what's hated thing.
Mario Sunshine is a wonderful game! the FLUDD brought some interesting ideas to the level design and the overall flow of the game. I personally haven't played NSMB2 but I've heard its a fantastic game more so being just another Mario game.
Yeah my only problem with the NSMB games, like other people, are the aesthetics. They couldn't have gone with a blander look. Gameplay wise they're fine. Playing 4-person on Wii is just an incredibly fun experience, even if very little progress gets made. I may be a part of the problem and buy a Wii U just for the new New Super Mario Bros.
Also, fuck the "new" name. Who was the genius at Nintendo to not only go with that name but CONTINUE to use it as well!?

The strange thing with Mario Bros 2 for me is that I never applied any kind of hate to it. I was a mere child when it came out and I just played the game. Years later, I actually still enjoy the hell out of it, despite it not being a Mario game.
As for Sunshine, I was a teenager and was able to see past my nostalgia factor. The level design just doesn't hold up, despite that game not being the worst thing ever. It's like Twilight Princess to me; It doesn't hold up to the series golden standards, but it's not bad.
I've yet to play NSMB2, even though I've owned it for a week now. I've got a feeling that I'll enjoy it. Magnalon was saying it's his favorite of the "New" games and I was blown away by New Wii. Here's hoping!

Im just worried because it was around the time NSMB2 was coming out that a lot of people and gaming websites claim that the Mario series is running dry, when really i think Mario is doing a damn fine job. Like I said, I consider NSMB2 my favorite of the "new" series but I think it's reputation down the line is gonna go down because of what people are saying.
