As far back as the SNES days, I remember playing Mario Kart, Super Mario Kart if you will. I was instantly sucked in when I started playing Mario Kart, it was just non stop fun for me. Then I got Double Dash, then DS and after that the Wii and played them until I got everything. It wasn't just Mario Kart I played too. I've beaten Diddy Kong Racing 100% with all characters and beaten time trials, played Crash Team Racing and completed it 100% with all characters and beaten time trials (believing I unlocked the Alien guy but didn't was really disappointing), and then I've completed Sega All Stars Racing 100% (sorry if I sound braggy). All those games I mentioned really show how much I love kart racers then, my right?
My story centers around me playing Mario Kart Wii. I would always play Mario Kart either alone or with someone. but as soon as I started playing online with 11 other different people, I had my game face on.
Knowing that there are people that serve much more of a challenge than hard mode computers made me excited.I started practicing, trying to place first every race, most of the time, well if it weren't for those damned blue shells of death hitting me very last lap of a race. But a typical online race would be me (as Diddy Kong on Mach Bike) against 5 other Funky Kongs on Bowser Bikes (who would've thought Funky Kong was the best MK character statistically I mean C'MON!) and everyone else.
As I was getting better and here's the interesting part, a race I never would've thought I had to race occurred. The race took place in Grumble Volcano and it was a full house of 12 players. As soon as the race began, everyone zoomed forward, everyone except for 1 racer who was just sitting completely still. I ignored him thinking he was just not gonna race and held onto 1st place. But then by the 2nd lap, he strangely warped ahead of me into the 2nd lap and zoomed up faster than any kart should. Then he started slamming everyone with lightning bolts, red shells, bob-ombs, mega mushrooms, stars, pow blocks, and so on and so on like he had an infinite supply. By third lap I was still keeping up with him and slammed him with a blue shell, but that wasn't enough. then he went all out and started kicking every ones ass, holding everyone in one place. It literally looked like a cartoonish fighting cloud, but then I somehow slipped out and made my way the the finish line without him noticing. only a few feet to go and he turned around and went warped speed (way faster than a bullet bill) and......I won.
I won by a few measly mili seconds. I couldn't believe I won against someone so overpowered. It felt like a badass retelling of the Tortoise and the Hair to me. It was really to bad I didn't record it but at least I remembered it with such detail. But being the cheap bastard that I was, I quit before I could've really had my ass handed. It may sound like nothing, but being that I love gaming as a hobby, that felt like a really big victory not only on my part but for people who play games fairly and always get bullied by glitchers of all kinds. Beating a glitcher fair and square is without the doubt THE most satisfying feeling you will ever get out of a video game with multiplayer. So here I am today some what playing Mario Kart 7 (feels like a WHOLE lot of things are missing) yet still trying to place 1st every race I...well... you know...race.
